The photo sign idea is a good one. I do a lot of jewelry along with my panels and framed work, so I use two things on my walls... bifold doors sawed in half hanging from my tent frame with zip ties ( my pendants and earrings are carded and hang nicely on them), and then I have my framed and panel pi...

Dani,

Try the sunshine artist supplies forum... I found a really nice used canopy there. I had a cheapo EZ up last year, and it worked fine- if you want to upgrade from there, they're easy to sell later. :)

nerd question

Can someone please explain to me what happens molecularly (the technical stuff) what happens to certain cadmium/selenium glasses that sometimes causes the shift in COE at high temps. and through multiple firings? I am a nerd. I need to know. Advanced art was offered the same period as chemistry. I t...

One thing I have (and love) for shows are my foam puzzle squares on the floor. They come in 2x2 squares that interlock- (I got them for $8.97 for a pack of 4 at Home Depot). They add a little cushion to protect your stuff a little if it falls on concrete, and people like standing on them after a day...

In college I worked at an amusement park during the summers (Cedar Point in Ohio). We always joked that there must be a sign at the front of the park that read "Please deposit brains here", because we encountered the stupidest of stupid people on earth (as well as some of the most amusing)...

selling suggestion

For those of you doing retail shows, here's a suggestion that worked wonders for me at my last show... I made 2 pieces that were identical, fused one, and superglued the other together. Then when people started asking me "is this painted on, etc." I showed them the "before and after&q...

Thank you all for your help! I have been looking at the wireless terminals because most of my shows are outdoors... they're pretty expensive, but they are small, one piece, and are supposed to work on a battery for 10-12 hours. Does anyone have experience with one of these? Do you ever have problems...

Bert,
What kind of terminal do you use? How much time do you spend calling in numbers? I'm estimating that I'll have around 25-35 cc sales at an average show, is this a lot to call in? How often have you handled a bad or stolen card? THanks for your help.

credit card terminals.....ughhhh

I recently and most unpleasantly discovered that I am in need for a credit card set up for shows... I have been looking at different terminals and my brain is in a swirl, I'm getting frustrated. I have a knucklebuster coming in the mail, but prefer to use it only as a back up since it is the least s...

I mis- typed my post.... I meant to say that I *would* like to get postcards from artists that I've purchased from (even not purchased from). I used to decorate the insides of my studio cabinets with them. I've never been a huge fan of political correctness, but don't go out of my way to offend othe...

I guess I should have clarified what I planned to send/ how often I planned to send it, etc. I was thinking of sending a yearly postcard (regular mail) with my retail show schedule, and a mailer to advertise a yearly holiday open studio. This would be sent only to people who have previously purchase...

Is it totally wrong and unethical to add people who purchase your work to your mailing list without them requesting to be on it? ( taking the name & addy off the check ) I don't think I'd care if I had purchased something from another artist and they did that, but does it seem like an invasion o...

I think if someone came up with a great way to make the plugs (called gauges here in OH) they'd be hitting a gold mine. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked if I could make them. Even the junky material ones are very expensive, especially when you consider that you have to keep replacing ...

I regularly make pendants and bracelets with this combination, it looks awesome on charms! I use radium rainbow dichro on clear on top- I sell a lot of them. I also use 1334 gold purple with fine silver in the same way, it turns khaki green at the silver connection, and 0122? orange opal turns simil...

A few things I've run across with with Moretti/Effetre sheet... quality is not even close to the others. There is a lot of inconsistency with sheet thickness, even in a single 10"x10", and it's pretty prone to devit in my experience. Many of the colors are striking colors (red, orange, yel...

Well, you're further ahead than I am on the photos thing, I don't even know how to put the little box around someone else's reply to include in my post. I see all these buttons and my brain starts to shut down.

wish to be more techy someday!
