Re: Some Recent Work To Say Thanks

Nice work! Interested in finding out more about the Tuna images - are they digital decals? Are they fired directly on top of white opal or on clear cap layer? Since I don't see any bubbles, I assume that they were not fired on opal and then capped. Were your decals low fire (1300's) or high fire (14...

Re: Two strange developments when I fused

I have experienced the "disappearing color" factor as well. Found that if I sift a fairly thin (but even) layer of opaque white powder before sifting the lighter colors, the colors will show up very well on dark glass. To avoid confusion, I will add that if you are using stencils or a silk...

Re: Three panels for a home

Wow!!These panels are beautiful . . . and it's hard to believe they could have been made with float glass, paints and stains!

Re: Glassline Black

Fuse Master low-fire glass enamels cure at 1200°, and the black is cold and intense. I use it frequently to screenprint designs on glass pieces . . . ornaments, for example. It is possible to hand paint with fuse master enamels, but requires more of an artist hand, I think - and that I don't have. I...

Re: Sand Mold Basics

There is a new lesson just posted in the past couple of weeks on Bullseye site - for those who have subscription for tutorials - around $40 per year. It is a step by step video for kilncasting with 9mm prefired glass blank. Kind of interesting. Covers the process very well. Gave me the push to find ...

Re: Light Reading

Just amazing. There seems to be no bounds to your creative talent. And with all that, you're just a regular guy!

Sitting here, I allowed myself to go back to your studio on Salt Spring Island for just a minute, and all the stresses of the day are gone!

Best to you and Lisbeth

Re: documentation/record keeping

Wow is an understatement! Your PDF form is fantastic. I have been keeping track of kiln firings since I began doing fused glass a couple of years ago. Keeping those records is invaluable when something you have already done successfully or even unsuccessfully relates to a new project. The problem wi...

Re: Screen printing TPI Question

When I first read your reply, my thought was that I hadn't used CMC . . . but after a few moments a memory bubbled up. A few months ago I ran across a technique for making paint for glass using mica, glass flux (I think this is just very finely powdered clear frit?), CMC and a little medium. The ori...

Re: Screen printing TPI Question

I've had good luck screenprinting on glass with glass enamels on a 110 screen - most of the work I do doesn't require a more detailed screen. I use Fuse Master enamels - both low fire and high fire, depending on project, prepared with Fuse Master screenprinting medium. I believe that Bullseye is now...

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass

Probably the best idea would be screenprinting with glass enamels . . . but that has a rather steep learning curve. When I first started doing it, I hated each and every project, but I found that over time, the screen preparation, exposure, washout, printing and screen reclaiming are not such a big ...

Re: Lettering

You will get crisp, readable text and logo designs by using silkscreen and glass enamels. If you can find someone to make your screen, you will avoid that learning curve. The actual printing is not that difficult. Bullseye just added a tutorial to their site. Take a look when you can. The tutorial u...

Yes I have, and it works very well. For me, it was a lot cleaner cut than I got using xacto knife. It was also a lot faster.

Time to purchase small wet belt sander - need your input

My glasswork has gotten to the level that has me thinking more about coldwork. I believe that I need to get a Wet Belt Sander, and any feedback would be most appreciated. It needs to be small - my studio does not have room for large belt sander, so I'm thinking "tabletop" would be just rig...
