for my taste, i might like fewer elements. "Inspiration" is nicely made, and i can see you finished the top edge of that bowl. i like those soft colors, but maybe not the purple/mauve V area. overall, the piece reminds me of ethnic weaving. "Playgrounds" i think could lose a few ...

i can see if i can get the glass out of there. it might not be easy to do so, but i will see. stuart, are you suggesting i put kiln cement in the holes, and also put a shelf on the bottom of the kiln? or, forget the kiln cement, and put shelf on floor of kiln, after removing whatever glass i can get...

kiln brick repair ?? after overheating

my workhorse kiln is a Cress front-loader, with 8" shelves. it has pyrometer and infinite switch, but not digital controller. last week i forgot what the hell i was doing, and let it heat up to about 2200F. the glass ran off the shelf in the back and made some fairly deep holes in the floor bri...

your lingo is fine. i like that part about the pendant hating life. egad. i think you have a lot of layers going on there. you might reconsider that, and if you are new to doing pendants, start with fewer layers, and work up to your thicker idea. i also like to put a shelf of pendants in the kiln an...

there are indeed a lot of bezel-set dichroic pendants on the market now, very inexpensive, not bad looking, definitely imports. i've seen in it stores where i live for about a year now, and was taken aback by the low retail price. some fairs do a good job of pre-screening the work of people in a sho...

there are several shades of gold lusters made by Hanovia. they come in a little bottle about a third the size of your little finger, and cost about $13. you can buy them at ceramic supply stores. there's artificial gold, and real gold, and the artificial one looks good. they also make some silver co...

techniques usually aren't the hallmark of an artist. maybe that's why artists often freely share their technical knowledge. layout, coloring, pattern, the soul of the piece, those things come together and sing out an artist's name and intent. when the visual quotation of another person's work is exp...

glass fusing is verre fondu. i suggest they use a search engine for that term, and see if they can track down euro publications in french.

http://boutique.lavelis.com/index.php?cPath=69

that link is to a site showing some fused glass plates, which i found using verre fondu as key words.

oh, i see your point about more complex images. well, you might try firing slower, and/or stopping sooner, when the edges are not yet rounding. i mean, take it to a fire-polish temperature instead of 1450 or 1500. when i make pendants, i usually fire them to about 1500F, and immediately turn off the...

glass does move when it's hot, so the pattern you put on one layer may shift/bend/stretch. i understand that you are annoyed at not getting the result you intended, but i like the wavy nature of the lines better than if they were straight. on the second picture, if i understand the pic, you are talk...

some CBS colors fire up like foil, and do what you mentioned, like crackling. i have noticed that the premium colors do this, and sometimes green/magenta-blue, which fires magenta. also, silver (not red/silver) fires like foil. other colors seem to not have the problem. as your jewelry heats up and ...

Judy, it's for making a bath, not just for etching small areas. the bottle has crystals in it, and you fill it up with water to dissolve the crystals. then you have a bath to put pieces into, in a plastic dish tub, or something like that. gives a nice, matte finish.
