Don't disable the sitter, just add a controller. You can use the sitter as a fail-safe to cut the kiln off if the controller malfunctions and the temperature gets too high -- just put a cone in it that's higher than you'd normally fire the kiln. Then get a standalone controller that the kiln can plu...

How long should I hold it at the peak temperature before it turns white and burns out? Hold it until it burns out. You'll see it turn white again. That could be a few minutes, or it could have happened already. How long depends on the particular brand and board. And make sure you vent the kiln when...

Well, it's not magic, but try heating the labels with a hairdryer. Most of the glues are sensitive to heat and will come loose.

Re: Labels on Bottles

I see where people have labels on the bottles they slump. Can someone please tell me how this is accomplished? One person mentioned decals? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Suzette The labels are applied after the bottle has been slumped. They're sometimes soaked off before slum...

Please let us know how it works for you, Judi. I know that Marty Kremer is also using the board as a kiln shelf (he's using the 2" thickness). The postage is the main reason I'm going to try to carry it. I'll be selling the board at the same price as BE, but will offer it mostly to people east ...

And where do you buy it?
It works fine. So does fiberboard, Ceramaguard, mullilte, or lots of other products.

Bullseye sells Skamol. I'll also be selling it in about a month.

The answer is to find another bank. Each bank has a different policy, and sometimes it varies even by locality. When I set up my merchant account, I was told by two banks (big name banks: Wachovia and Bank of America) that it would cost me extra (either in a deposit or in higher fees) to have an acc...

The new thin fire is supposed to be less likely to scuz the edges than the old.
But then, kiln wash doesn't scuz the edges at all. Imagine that! Brock
No pre-firing, either!

The binder appears to be a bit heavier in 110-J than in regular fiber paper. This is probably because the 110 is denser (that's probably one reason it lasts longer). I have to prefire 110 to around 1400F to make certain it all burns out. I tend to prefire any paper (other than thinfire or thin strip...

If the element's gone bad (and that sounds like what it is), you can get a replacement element and install it yourself. It's not that difficult, you just need to take it slow. Most kiln manufacturers will help you with the procedure, and most have the replacement element available for sale also. Jus...

I am student at Sul Ross State University. I am taking a slump glass class and for my final I need to find and fussing schedule for multiple layers of glass about 4 - 6 layers and a slump schedule for a drop ring (glass 10in disk). I would appreciate any information that can be shared. Thank you fo...

Around cone 017, sometimes 016.

You may have to experiment a bit, but that's usually in the right area.
