I'll bow to the wisdom of those that have been doing this a lot longer than I have. You can disregard what I said, although I've seen it written a lot of times, including from people that have been doing this a long time.

Re: fused scraps
It's interesting, you posted your first post on the 22nd but I don't recall seeing it come up when i did view new posts. Maybe that happened to the people that usually answer questions like yours. I've used my Bullseye scraps lots of times to do what you are doing. The thickness you want to end up w...

Re: Making bisque ceramic molds
My Skutt says it will go to 1800, although I've never taken it that high. I've bisqued a number of molds in it though. I used low fire clay (something called Wonder White at the local place I get my clay) and though I don't take it to the temperature it says is it's bisque range, I take it higher th...

Re: What you cannot live without...
Depending on how much time you are going to spend in there... telephone, internet and maybe cable TV connection. Intercom drop if you have one in your house already. If you put the wiring in for all of this in several places of the room before you seal everything up, it makes it easier later on. Mike

Very pretty colors. You ought to set one on a record player and let it spin at 33 rpm.

Re: is this normal? (fired paint)
I've applied the paint by dabbing it on across the top of the screen and then use the squeegee that came in the Stencil Pro kit I bought and squeegee down across the screen. Without adding the flux to the paint the paint is to wet. After I added some of the flux it made more of a paste that I could ...

Re: is this normal? (fired paint)
I've been experimenting with screen print as well and using the Kaiser Paints. Although my screen wasn't all that great and I used the paint straight out of the jar (I ordered and used the Flux the next time and it was much better) I didn't have a problem with it fading on me. http://www.sitnprettyp...

Re: Just how warm will my kiln room get?
I have the edge of my Skutt GM1014 two feet away and level with 2 shelves filled with jars of canned fruit and has been for 4 years and they don't even get warmer than what ever temperature it is in my two car sized garage. You can set a thermometer or two on your selfs to keep an eye on it but I do...

Re: Decals and Screen Printing
Drewcilla, I have used Barry Kaiser's screens that are ready to expose and also the Stencil Pro kit. I used Barry's when I was trying to get the UV lights to work and then bought the high res Stencil Pro kit and went with sunshine. I'm pretty sure' the Kaiser screens would have also worked very well...

Decals and Screen Printing
Although I've been working on a couple of things, I've not had a lot of time to take pictures of them over the last several weeks. So today I made some time this afternoon to grab some quick shots of the screen printing I've been trying and decals I've been testing that I learned about in the thread...

I have also ordered decals, but I didn't make the deadline for printing last week. They are printing on Tuesday this week so I hope to have them by Friday or Saturday. I put a few bigger images on my page so only got 8 images on it, but they will give me a good example of some of the things I want t...

Have you fired anything else in the kiln or on the shelf you are using other than BE glass? Like, clay, metal, or other types of glass?

Re: wind chimes that don't chime, they clunk
There is some very good information on the internet about making wind chimes and having them sound just about anyway you want. Here is a couple of links to some good info: http://home.fuse.net/engineering/Chimes.htm http://www.reocities.com/teeley2/chimeart.html And even a program to do a lot of the...

Re: PC monitor as light box for photos
The monitor idea won't work very well. It would probably work to get a silhouette of your glass, but if you light your glass so it exposes correctly, the screen will be under exposed and not white anymore... if you could see it all from the glare of the light reflecting back off of it. If you don't ...

I had some circles cut and didn't have any sheet glass, and needed a square Jim Jim, if I was only a half-hour away from Bullseye, I'd never run out of sheet glass! :D Valerie, if you knew how backed up Hwy 26 going East from Hillsboro through the tunnel into Portland can be at times, you might for...

Re: Share your water drip techniques and methods
I use a wet sponge when I don't want to use a water feed, either I wet the one on my grinder or I hold a bigger wet sponge in my left hand with the glass I'm grinding and squeeze it a little bit to keep the water flowing and have a container of water next to me to re-soak it in. I wouldn't want to d...

Re: More Spoon Rests
Hi Barry, I've been testing with the Black fusing paint that I got from you. I don't know how you get some of things images you get on glass that look as good as they do. The first one I did and fired my wife asked me if this was one of those ink blot tests. I would have been crushed accept I kind o...

More Spoon Rests
I've been working on a few more spoon rests so I have a number of different types and here is what I've done over the last few weeks. These are made from 5" circles that I cut out. http://www.sitnprettyphoto.com/display/glass/spoonrests1044.jpg I saw these pint blue Ball Jars and thought the bl...

Re: A new tool for drawing with powder or fine Frit
I'd be concerned about how long the motor that does the vibration would last and if the length of time would justify what ever the cost for these would be. When you think an artist (or even a kid playing with sand) might be using it for hours at a time, that's a lot of wear on such a tiny little mot...

Re: WHICH PHOTOS TO CHOOSE?
Tell him that the cover will do nicely and "which picture was it you wanted to use?" The type of black and white also depends on the paper it's going to be displayed on and what kind of process. Images in newsprint for newspapers need to be of higher contrast without a lot of details in th...
