Re: Bullseye Thin Fire - Grrrr!

I have been using the BE thin fire for years and never got any scum on the glass. Are you putting small kiln posts on the corners to keep it from rolling onto the glass?
Where is the scum appearing?

Re: Recognize these molds?

The middle two look like the molds for 3d irises to put in a stained glass panel.

Re: Help -- Glass on Glass (w/out use of kiln) Question

I don't know where the "epoxy grout" answer came from. Tina McIntire who developed the MAC Glue uses grout from Home Depot for her mosaics that sell in an high end gallery.

I have used MacGlue for several years for mosaics and have had no problems.

Glass Craftsman Magazine is no longer being published. If you could find back issues, they are full of info.

Margaret, You will love Jan's class. She is one of those instructors who is willing to "give" information. Which class are you taking? I've been several times in the past. Lots of fun. If you are staying at South Point Hotel.....really nice place and so nice to sleep later, get up, walk to...

Re: Using strofoam as a mold

I've had Styrofoam melt from certain glues, hate to think what it would do in the kiln.

Re: Viewing windows in kilns

I love the viewing window of my Evenheat kiln. I have kiln posts under the shelf so that it raised enough that I can see the pieces firing. Saves losing heat by raising the lid.

Pens that don't burn off.

I need to do some testing of a process and would like to mark on my pieces the measurement used. (That way I don't have to keep looking for my notes in my messy workroom.)

What can I use to mark on my glass with that won't burn off?

Thanks,
Vernelle

Re: Bubble or "Tumor" Forming During Slump

You said you are using a plate mold. Are there holes in the bottom of the mold? Are they plugged with kilnwash preventing air from being pushed out? Did you raise the mold on kiln posts so the air will definitely be pushed out? I think your schedule is too fast. I seldom do anything but 200 dph to s...

Has anyone used this mold?

http://www.bluefiremolds.com/files/mold ... EW%20MOLDS

Has anyone used this mold from Blue Fire Molds? I was just wondering what glass would look like when slumped on it. Its hard to tell from the photo.

Thank you,

How long you leave the Armour Etch on depends on the glass. Don't leave it more than 30 seconds with dichroic and one of the "Rub 'n Etch" stencils. I etched this piece of dichroic, capped it with clear and then fused. I have more info on etching in my "Chemical Etching" album if...

This used to be the AGSA (I think that is the letters), now AGA (Art Glass Association). I've been going the past 4 years. It used to be strickly for retailers but has steadily been going down hill due to poor organization of shows, last minute notice of classes (compared to Glass Expo.) Now it is o...

I realized after posting the question that the glue would probably burn off.

I don't have any rigidizer......may have to buy some.

Could I use wire to hold the piece together? Same principal as using nails to hold boards together?

Thanks

Glue fiber paper

I want to slump a business card holder. Can I cut 1/4" fiber paper (rigid stuff) into 3 pieces to make a mold and glue the sides onto the top part? If so which glue would you recommend I use? I know that I could use mold mix to make a mold but thought the fiber paper might be less time consumin...

Youghioghemy Easy Fuse

I just got back from Glass Expo. In the Youghiogheny booth they were giving away free samples of thier "Easy Fuse" "Float Fit Fusible".

Anyone tried this yet?

Thanks,
