Re: POT MELT, AGAIN

Yes, you can re-use it. But I'd make sure that the colors/glasses you use on the nth use will work with the ones used in previous melts with that pot.

Re: Measuring accurately

My ruler is firmly fixed to the Morton pad. It extends past the zero mark in both directions. Sometimes I measure to the right of the zero mark when cutting, sometimes to the left, by sliding the glass along the ruler. It is imperative that you make sure that your cutter blade goes across the ruler ...

My thoughts, also.

Re: Lap Grinder

I built my 18" lap grinder with a variable speed control for the motor, but find that I always use it on the highest speed provided by the control, motor, and pulley arrangement. If I build another, I will forego the variable speed aspect.

Re: Hmmm ... can this technique be ported to glass?

"Why do it?" Well, we're definitely in the subjective realm here, but I think the piece shown in the image above demonstrates a different kind of beauty than would a similarly shaped pottery piece with the same finish, etc., but unveined. The gold veins have introduced a particular element...

Re: Hmmm ... can this technique be ported to glass?

Looks to me that this is one of those things that would take much, much experimentation/testing to perfect, but the payoff would be awe-inspiring, I think. Some good ideas here - thanks.

Hmmm ... can this technique be ported to glass?

Could some shinable alloy with a melting point compatible with glass be used to produce a glass piece that echoes this?

Re: HOW do I fuse these together

Havi: I like it just the way you've shown it in the picture. What's to be gained by yet another fusing cycle which may markedly alter the appearance as it now stands? So why not just glue the two pieces together? The melt looks like it's opaque enough in a few places so that the glue dollops would n...

Could it have been bag balm? That's something that vets have that doesn't require a prescription and is often used by humans for scrapes, burns, etc.

Re: documentation/record keeping

I use a MS Word form for logging project info. It has allowed me to incorporate dropdowns, pushbuttons, checkboxes, etc. into the form which makes the entry of data quite easy. The form also allows me to save images along with the textual data. When I am pretty much through entering the info, I prin...

Re: devit more likely with spring green?

You say the colors were transparents - was the Spring Green the 126? That's an opalescent, and more prone to devit than the transparent sky blue.

Which side is the devit on? If it's on the top surface, why would sanding/lapping it interfere with the irid on the bottom?

Re: First work done

Yeah - I have a thought: Wow!

I think it's beautiful, and the piece certainly has expanded my view of fusing possibilities. I would have offset the strip pieces horizontally, and perhaps not made them identical shapes.

Thanks for the share.

Stephen:

How do you deal with the stringers from mesh to melt? Once you've separated the two, do you remelt to smooth out the resulting mountain peaks? Grind? Or what?

Thanks.

Understand "stretching" via a drop, but how are you stretching the glass on a shelf? And what is the layout (layers, glasses, decorations, etc.) and schedule(s)?

Tips for using rocker wall switch plate mold IMD1036

I was given an IMD1036 wall switch plate mold for Christmas. (Go here https://www.siscor.com/aspcart/imd/OpenProd.asp?ProdNo=395 for a picture and blurb describing the mold.) Looks like it is pretty well made - will produce a concavity to allow for the protrusion of the switch itself, e.g. But I'd l...
