Re: Uneven kiln and how to fix

I just installed a new kiln in the rear of my workshop and noticed that it is on a slight incline. The floor slopes towards a drainage area. This is the only area the kiln will fit, so moving it is not an option. The kiln has somewhere between a 2.5 to 3 degree incline. What are my best options to ...

Re: Calendars on their way!

Chip Elliott has mailed out most of the calendars, with the main exception being people who haven't paid yet. If you're in that group, please pay as soon as possible. Also, we still have a few extras, so if you still want to order you can do so from this page: http://www.warmglass.com/CalendarPay.h...

Welcome to New England. You'll love the area and you'll hardly notice the difference from the SF Bay area :^o ... except that housing is much cheaper, and you'll have to pay for heat  ... and you'll have to wear warmer clothes  Seriously, we have a great glass community in New England....

Re: Help! Moving to MAINE

Hi everyone, I'm moving to Portland, Maine (unfortunately NOT Portland OR) from the wonderful San Francisco Bay Area. Anyone know of any hot glass activity - practitioners, studios, classes, stores, whatever - in that area (Southern Maine area, that is)?? Thanks a lot!! Elizabeth nancy tang - uGotG...

So maybe Cheryl should do an article for a well-distributed glass magazine entitled, "The Biggest Lie In Fusing". And then proceed to give some history that is actually accurate. Then we can send copies of the article to all the liars. What do you think? lolol wouldn't that stir th...

That reminds me...I went to a large craft show last November. I browsed at one kiln-formed glass booths, and the fellow came over and said to me that his glass company was the ONLY one in Canada that uses compatible tested fusing glass. He obviously didn't notice that at least one other glasser at ...

Re: Submersible pump solutions?

I may be missing something very obvious, but how do those of you with tiles saws with submersible pumps deal with the water issue? Keeping running water going is a huge waste and it seems like every few minutes I have to empty the pan and find a sloshing place for glass grit water. I only got it a ...

Re: Dichro jewelry problem

Hi, I'm new here! I've recently started making jewerly with dichroic glass and I've noticed that after firing, the dichroic layer seems to crack (like gold leaf) and/or shrivel somewhat. It looks kind of nice but I'm also looking for a smooth finish. I make sure the dichro layer faces clear glass, ...

I'm looking to do lots of production cutting of 1/8" glass, all straight cuts. I tried a cheap tile saw from Home Depot, but it chipped the edges too much and the blade is thick so it creates a lot of rough grit that gets in the way. I'm thinking of trying a lapidary slab saw because they come...

Re: Lo-tech devit removal

I have a piece - all BE - that has a devit problem. It's a combination of pattern bars and solids, a BE yellow and 0124 Red. The red devitrified on the first full fuse firing at 1480F. All of the glass had been cleaned with isopropyl alcohol before firing. I don't yet own a sandblaster, so I used s...
