At this point it may be a tradeoff between chipping and speed. As you increase your cutting pressure (thereby increasing your feed rate) you will eventually get more edge chipping. You might find that increasing your pressure until the chipping becomes unacceptable will be the balance you are looki...

Just saw into it a little and then test and see if the blade cuts glass better. You need to go at least as deep as the diamond band around the edge of the blade. You shouldn't have to make a whole cut off the end to get results. Ron ok, have used the dressing stone, has improved chipping on the bot...

Re: Time to saw some bricks
Lowes should have some silicon carbide sharpening stones you could use, but first try cutting an old birck.

next naive question of the day - once i have a sharpening stone, what's the proper methodology for using it?
thanks

The blade can be dressed, but you may also be using too much pressure and not taking enough time to make your cuts. Diamond blades degrade quickly when they are used aggressively. You should be applying very little force to push the glass through the blade. Let the blade do all the work. Also, make...

tile saw blade longevity question
ok all you tile saw gurus - have an mk diamond 370 tile saw, i'm using their special diamond coated glass blade - put a new blade on the other day, worked beautiful, 10 min to cut strips in 6.25" wide slab, very slight minimal chipping on bottom that won't require grinding, felt like slicing th...

I agree with Linda. If you soak cabs for about 15 minutes in Limeaway, the stuck kiln wash usually will fall right off. I slosh cabs around several times during the soak to aid in this process. No scrubbing is required most of the time. Good luck! Geri geri, is limeaway something available at my lo...

Re: Tumbling Kiln wash from cabs
Tumbling Kiln wash from cabs Does this work fairly safely? I got talked into making hundreds of very small cabs (all under 3/4" most under 1/2"). One of the colors I am using (Bullseye lapis would have to check the exact number if anyone cares) all stuck to the kiln wash or vice versa. It...

Re: Help for a beginner about fusing glass fritt
Could anyone help me with a fusing guide for float glass fritt using a small enamelling kiln. I would like to know if you start with a warm kiln then increase temp to full soak then gradually reduce the temp or just turn it off and let the glass cool slowly in the kiln. I would also like to know ho...

Re: black on white
well, the dichroic side is face down against the white - would that be causing it? it's a solid layer of dichrioc....Jeri Dantzig wrote:Dee,
Is the black by chance around the dichroic? That happens when I use the black swizzle sticks, but I know that and use it.

Re: Silver Art Clay
Does anyone out there know of a good source for silver art clay? There's a low-temp version that fuses at glass-fusing temps - but I'm finding all sources to be around the same price, $14 - $19 for 10 gr. Any ideas? :?: it's expensive stuff - pmc 3 fires at the lowest temp and pmc + is lower than t...

Go to Sams or BJ wholesale . You can get a easy up for around 200.00 this includes the sides. while the easy ups are cheap they are the first ones to try and fly at a windy show, you'll need to devise a weight system as well as making sure it comes with good stakes - when you can afford it, t...

Re: Fusing & Glue
I just purchased my first kiln about two weeks ago. So far I am fusing small projets and scrap glass to get a "feel" of the kiln. I have a question about using glue to hold glass in place. I made a small coaster project, and I glued the top piece to the bottom piece to keep the overhang c...

Re: Buying a Kiln
I'm looking for some guidance from the Board before investing in a new kiln. I currently am using a Paragon SC-3 (0.28 cu ft) and it's great but much too small. I had a great conversation with Marty at Centre DeVerre this afternoon and am looking at a few different kilns. I'd appreciate your commen...
