Re: Help with crack
Your initial fuse of strips can be fast- 300dph- with a serious bubble squeeze around 1100. Subsequent firings of a piece like that shouldn't be any faster than 100dph (up to 1000F) because of the thickness and the black part. Every time I think I can get away with a faster firing I am reminded that...

Re: Help with crack
Well I understand the principle but can never get a clear answer on what is good. I can find all sorts of schedules for annealing but none for the turn up. Chris- My students want schedules- all I can give is guidelines; no one can give you the recipe for your work in your kiln (and what has "...

Re: Emissions and studio safety
But there's binders in the refractories that burn off, dusts from working with powders and from sandblasting, mists from coldworking. Common sense ventilation takes care of most, particle masks the rest.

Need more details- size and weight of drops? any loops on them or will you drill or cradle them? how visible can the cables be? how professional does this have to be? who's installing it? public or private space?

Re: Removing Rim From A Large Drop
Dry the glass thoroughly and add a duck tape handle or two where you'd normally hold on.
The only drawback that I've found to my bridge saw is the narrowness of the table. Some brands have extensions you can buy- I'll be making one.

Re: Removing Rim From A Large Drop
That's a different issue. I'd considered waterjet for the rims of finished stuff but they don't like to do 3D- there are clearance issues for the abrasive nozzle assembly.

Re: Removing Rim From A Large Drop
aka bridge saw, being sold more and more for larger tile work. I got cheap thin wood blades as stiffeners for thin kerf diamond blades. Mine's got a lock to keep the saw from moving on the rail so I could push work into the blade but I'd rather hold the work on the table and take successive cuts and...

I'd amend that: cut all the strips first and then break them out in fours, twos and ones.

Leponitt makes a heavy duty running pliers that makes the job much easier. You may want to pad the jaws with electrical tape to minimize chipping.

Re: How to Calculate Shipping Charges?
Actual shipping charges.
Don't forget the ancillary stuff like the cost of a trip to the PO or UPS and the cost of packing materials and time to pack. If you're scrounging materials then account for the cost of the time involved. I include that stuff in the (wholesale) price and add shipping after.

Re: uroboros mottles - can I firepolish edges?
I tried it (long ago) with some Urob mottles and it was a complete failure- mottles disappeared, colors went blah, glass devitrified and some actually crumbled.
However- it would take you no time at all to put some scraps in your kiln and find out for yourself.
