Re: Texture / kiln carving
Costco has a pretty sweet bundled deal on the new Silhouette Cameo right now; I just treated myself to an early birthday present. I'm thinking I can use it to cut vinyl for my new sandblaster. http://www.costco.com/Silhouette-CAMEO%C2%AE-Electronic-Cutting-Machine-Bundle.product.100137932.html?cata...

Re: BE ball mold?
Not sure I understand the question completely but a ball mold is exactly that: completely rounded, so there won't be a flat spot.

Re: knocking off needles on the cheap
I fire single layer pieces all the time without needle points but my schedule is 400° an hour to 1400° with a 15 minute hold. And that's in my kiln; yours will be different.

Re: Texture / kiln carving
I like kiln-carving with 1/16" fiber and sometimes even a layer or two of Thinfire (stuck together with a light film of Spray Mount adhesive). Eighth-inch fiber is fairly deep to me too.

There was an artist showing photos of her testing that glass on the FB group called Fused Glass Fanatics.
You can join the group and search for 1015; it'll bring up her photos.

Do you have diamond hand pads? You may be able to sand it off that way.

"Dumbing down" of glass art?
Was talking to a friend recently who owns a glass studio which is open to the public. While she used to bring in quality instructors and fill classes, now the glass is being treated more like the 'paint your own pottery' places are set up. She's got precut components and scrap glass and base glass; ...

Re: Firing a double walled vessel
I had a purely decorative piece once that required colors I could only achieve through Pebeo vitreous enamels (the 150 and 160 versions). I applied them, then only heated in the kiln until they cured at about 350°. They're designed to cure in a home oven so I don't see why they wouldn't work on thos...

Re: 4 Seasons.... Break
Couldn't you use a silicone glue and attach the glass to a wood panel? That way you could hang it with hardware from the back, and you may be able to just glue to glass closely enough to minimize the cracks. Or, you could refuse and still attach to a back board.

Re: wattage rating
Alice, make sure you take your home or studio's entire electrical usage into account too. I spent a year trying to convince my husband that one of my kilns was only a few bucks to run, only to be told by my electrician that my numbers were wrong; we were being billed at 'penalty rates' instead of th...

Re: Fire polishing observation and question
It may be that one of those changes is what you need, or both. I'd advise taking good notes, and visually observe pieces while in the kiln. Set up a few experiments and peek at the time when you think they should be done; if they're not glossed up to your desired result, add a little extra time. Rep...

Re: Are Bullseye Videos Lessons worth the expense?
I would agree that they are well worth the small fee. I've subscribed since they first came out and always enjoy new releases, which are quite frequent. I watch the video and take notes, or pause and make screen captures. For a recent video that demonstrated how to create new colors with a selection...

I haven't used them but Bullseye recently released a new Quick Tip: Suggested Slumping Schedules. It lists suggested slumping schedules for all their molds.

Wow, this has got to be heartbreaking! I'm so sorry. Perhaps vandals? It appears the glass might be hung in a public place. Other than that, I'm thinking the panels were under-annealed. Counting the owl, it looks like you've got at least five or so layers of glass there, and since the owl and top co...

Bullseye sells a great 'starter kit' which contains quite a few tools, glass, etc. The kiln is a Paragon with a 14" square shelf.

I pull cane in my studio. I have a Paragon Caldera kiln that I have sitting on a shelf mounted above one of my studio doors (and yes, I lock the door when pulling cane!).

Re: firing irid, face-down
Because the sheet glass is handmade, there are inherent bubbles, texture marks (sometimes called zipper lines) in the glass. The irid accentuates the look of those 'imperfections', in my opinion. Once fired, I can't imagine anything you can do to change the look of them, unless you re-fired on a hea...

Re: mold like this but in 4"
I've got a few of the Dragon brand molds and think the quality is good. I also have a few Slumpy's molds and think the quality is rather poor. The Bullseye 4.625 mold is so close to the size of your blank that I'd suggest testing one since their quality is great. I'd think a bowl that sits nice and ...
