Re: Fiber floor kiln

I fire fiber shelves directly on my fiber floor, when I fire a mullite shelf I raise it off my fiber floor.

Re: Polishing with a sandblaster

Good to know, I'll try it with the syphon feed as well as the pressure pot.

Re: Polishing with a sandblaster

Peter,

I recently bought a new pressure pot and have a second cabinet, I plan to experiment with the soda blast soon. I like the possibilities you've spoken about.

I'll let you know the results.

Re: Time to purchase small wet belt sander - need your input

Yes you can, no it's not the ideal tool for it, but it does work. I clamp a piece to my bench and use the hand held when appropriate. I don't have to use it for that much anymore but did often in the past.

Yes a real WBS is better but for those with lack of space and or cash it's very useful.

Re: Time to purchase small wet belt sander - need your input

Don, I have a 4x106 sander a couple of 1" x 30" a 4"x 36" and the hand held machine we mentioned. The absolutely least used one of the bunch is the "professional" 4 x 106. I can achieve an optical polish with my hand held very easily. I been in many professional glass s...

Re: Time to purchase small wet belt sander - need your input

Like Bert said, the hand helds are a great inexpensive tool. You can achieve a complete polish with them also. I will sometimes put a water drip line (smal amount off water) on the area I'm polishing to keep heat and dust down. They also make a polishing oil to spray on the belts, works good also. h...

Re: using water pump with MK 100--or just a hose?

I have my saw attached to a 1/4" water line that they use to bring water to your fridge. Brings plenty of water and you never have to mess around with the useless pumps. The pumps may be sufficient to cut ceramic tiles, but for glass I find the more water the better.

Re: Annealing stress test

If anyone needs polarized film but doesn't want to "Buy" it, many of the 3D glass are made with polarized film. The new IMAX 3d glasses give you two rather large pieces that'll work great for stress tests.

Re: Vertical Disc Grinder

Like I do with most things, I rigged up a 12" disc grinder to run wet with diamond discs. This one is made primarily for metal work but works great with 12" diamond discs. The face where the discs go was aluminum so I had to attach a piece of steel for the magnets. add a small water attach...

Re: Installing Fused Glass Panels in Restaurant Bar

It may sound crass but why bother worrying about removal, they apparently weren't worried about removal. So why make it more complicated, they are no longer your pieces so if they want them removed they can remove them however they want. I'd put them up the easiest and securest way that works.

It never occured to me that condensation may be the problem, That may be what they were refering to but I'm sure I've heard it more than once that cutting cold glass was temperamental, especially 12-19 mil. Maybe I misunderstood or maybe the guys were full of BS. Those who can't cut 19 mil well are ...

Brock, I don't know about BE or spectrum but the guys from my supplier of float won't cut 19mm 3/4" float when it is fresh off the truck and very cold out. Now the questions becomes whats "COLD OUT" well here in Calgary today it's about -30 degrees celsius which works out to about -21...

I pay US$5.80 for an A4 sheet of 3 thou or 5 thou film, they are both the same price. It is the APM film made by Aicello http://www.aicello.com I'd be interested to try out the one you use, just to see how it performs.[/quote] All the pricing is on the photobrasive site. Hi Paul: As for the transparency film, you can double up the images...as Tony said, or you can purchase a product called "Toner Aide" by Sprayway which is sprayed directly on the ink side of the transparency. It darkens the ink. There's another similar product called "Casey's Ultra B...

You can achieve at least a 100% reduction with an oil air compressor. When your oiless one dies, which it will especially enclosed. Thanks Patty, I figured that the blade was worn out. The saw seems to be in good shape otherwise. place the stringer against the edge of a regular wet grinder to flatten one edge. This is a technique taught to me by Bob Leatherbarrow at a recent class I took. This worked well once you figure out the correct pressure, they break easily.

Diamond Band saws

Has anyone used either of the Denver glass Diamond band saws? I have a opportunity to purchase a used one at a rather decent price. I tried out this one and the performance wasn't what I expected, it was rather slow to cut a piece of 10 mil float. The blade looked worn out to me, but the guy selling...

On most of the QEP saws including mine which is a 2 1/2 hp not a 1 hp as previously mentioned. You can increase the cutting speed by removing the belt guard. There is two pulleys in the housing. That is how they say it is two speeds, you just can't change that speed very quickly. Loosen the motor to...
