Vermiculite board box moulds.
Was hoping someone could enlighten me on a new approach I will be taking to contain bubble blocks that I will be working on again soon. Basically I've been making do with whatever was available amongst the clutter in the studio. I've adjusted methods to this madness as new problems reveal themselves...

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?
I was accepted to the group, checked out things that interested me as they pop up. No time to hunt for the worst offenders. I see that many are doing some amazing work which will only inspire those searching for their style amongst the group who share. There biggest advantage most likely is that cli...

having a cool drink and letting it come back up to temp. That is the trick to it, getting loose. One Mojitos, two Mojitos, three Mojitos more. Unfortunately combing is off the radar for a while longer, maybe next Christmas. Anyway Ironman this game is all about patience which I've learnt time and t...

Re: Raking glass
I can see your problem having to deal with a top loading kiln to comb, my old girl is a front loader, Paragon GLA22 and it was a breeze to do the task with a long timber handle with hook attachment which at that angle gave me a sense of control. The beauty of it is,is that it is a one man show for t...

Re: Raking glass
I use a hothead for concentrated heat at the top of my bubble work in a small top loading kiln, it's not what you are looking for because the hothead wouldn't stand a chance for what you want. From what I've learnt here on this forum is that the old fashioned crash cooling, prolonged opening of kiln...

Good read Don. To quote, I liked the description"It was a dazzling minuet of missteps." and the term "free designer." peace, haydo

Had a workmate, over weight and past his prime but like us all had a history. Ex steel worker who could scamper all over a structure. Our supervisor at the time on Nauru would just ride him, so I asked him why he put up with that shit. "Endurance, gotta have endurance, don't get anywhere withou...

Little bit late here Jen with the transfer of information. Bloke who ran a resort close to where I live swore by fine steel wool. He had all his cleaners use it to bring shower screens to their sparkling best. peace, haydo

Re: 4 Seasons.... Break
Could it be thermal shock due to the big panels having their lower sections soaking up the sun? The break in the piece on the right is higher in the panel because it looks like it gets more exposure to the heat bringing the battle lines higher. peace, haydo. PS - could be wrong as I have been before.

Kind words are always appreciated, thank you. Get another ten designs together before trying to approach any business with the clout and know how to move them at the right price. Thought my problem was solved a couple of weeks ago when I copped a whack to the head but I resurrected and remembered th...

Re: Need some kiln recommendations...
It's a bit hard trying to sell a 4 cylinder to anyone with their mind set on something bigger. For me personally I would go for a small kiln because the ones I have now are so versatile. My Paragon Calderas are excellent being slightly bigger than my old Evenheat Hotboxs. Still have one Hotbox that ...

Still working small, seeing how things look before I commit to doing scene panels with vitragraph cane simalar to ones I made back in 2003. These pieces are for my wife as she is my biggest fan and rep, trying to put together a range to show with one of the contacts that she made in Melbourne and wh...

I had a favourite here. No fuss and straight to the chase but some people would get their noses out of joint. If it was television, the mix would have really worked because who really wants sugar on their sugar? Not enough would want it I'm sure, only those in lah lah land. peace, haydo

When I used to dry my shelves in a prefire I'd only have to go to 500degF, currently with what I'm doing I don't need it fully dry. You'd be doing similar to what potters would be up to, getting value for money. peace, haydo

Not much more I can do on Nauru towards end goal, except maybe start again on the blog. Shanno, my eldest produced and gave me a guide for dummies to upload images to website. I'm hoping this effort will encourage him to follow up with modifications to admin and site so that a dummie like me can cha...

What you are going to try with future annealing is the way to go. Spend a bit more time to save time. Only other suggestion would be to add some baffling between the edge of work and the side elements. Depending on what you have on hand is where you may need to get creative with the baffling problem...

I feel genuinely sad for any of the pawns in this game of "bring on police state" that have a real need to resettle in Australia. Cambodia could be a win win, and may allow to show how the world can move forward from all of this fear and hatred. Could become the perfect model. Now that wou...

Re: Jewellery box.
Compliments are appreciated, thank you. Small kilns can do a lot in a studio. Won't try and revisit this too soon but am happy it's something that can be tweaked and played with down the track. To figure it out is just a matter of working out how to get a bubble to stay where it's wanted, journey is...
