Re: Polishing out scratches by hand?

I'm a confused newcomer. From previous posts on another topic, I came away thinking that it is not advisable to fire polish in a mold. If it is okay firepolish in the mold in the instance at hand here, why not just combine steps to firepolish and slump in one firing? I'm sure I'm missing something, ...

Re: textured iridescent

Well, it isn't Spectrum - It's 96 COE - Uroboros. Is my plan ill-fated?

textured iridescent

I have some Spectrum textured iridescent glass that I would like to slump. Prior to slumping, should I fire polish to smooth the cut edges? If so, should I place clear frit on the textured side to preserve the texture? Will I have an unsightly result if I slump it textured/iridescent side down? Than...

Bookends

Does anyone have a suggestion for making glass bookends without making a mold? I've never worked with really thick glass before.

Re: Kiln Heat in Room

We're in south Florida, so we were worried about kiln heat in our attached garage. We have an Olym. 18" square 13.5 " clamshell, a mite smaller than yours. Our garage is pretty hot to begin with, especially on a summer afternoon with the sun glaring into the garage from the west. We keep t...

Re: Running pliers for thick glass

(I hope) one last question on this topic of the power breaker... How close to the edge of the glass can you use this tool? One thing I want to achieve is a nice straight (perpendicular) edge instead of the rounded edge.

Running pliers for thick glass

I would like to try cutting some thicker kiln-formed glass. Do I need a special cutter? I noticed that the running pliers for thick glass are quite pricey. Can anyone recommend a decent one?

Thanks.

Ceramaguard

Ceramaguard for molds and dams? The Armstrong website has a long list of tiles? Fine fissured, School Zone, Health Zone, Ultima, on and on. Which one?

Thanks.

Purple polka dotted kiln wash

Someone recommended the Hotline Primo Primer as the best to coat my molds. I mixed it up (1 : 4.5), but the purple specks would not disappear. I put a cover on the bowl (tightly sealed Pyrex bowl) and let it sit over night. I mixed it up again, but there were still some purple dots. I figured that t...

Which molds?

Yes, I'm a newbie. I've done some flat fusing, just to get the hang of it. I am getting ready to purchase slumping molds and would appreciate advice on good molds for beginners. I plan to spend around $200 and would like a nice "beginner's" assortment to give me experience with different s...
