Magazines
I just wrote an article on using drop rings for Glass Craftsman magazine. If you find a copy of the current issue (no. 178), it will help with basic questions. This particular issue has quite a few articles on kiln-forming techniques. Here in the UK we are pretty starved of specialist magazines - a...

Re: display stands
Can anyone help? I'm looking for a supplier/maker of display stands within the UK. I've checked the archives and couldn't seem to find any. Bohle sell acrylic stands (bohle.de). They have warehouses in London and Oldham. If you search for stands on the web there are lots of shop-display companies w...

Bohle (in Germany and most of Europe) do a range of frits for float. See:-

I don't think they cover the US, but they have a brilliant on-line order and delivery service in the UK.

Craft is a repeatable process. The craftsperson uses craft to create art. or Art. In the UK there is a tradition of the Artist using craft to make their own creations - this dates back to the Arts and Crafts movement (William Morris etc). In other cultures (such as in Germany) the Artist commissions...

It has never occurred to me to stick around when firing. I have a front loading Firecracker from Kilncare with an ST501 controller http://www.kilncare.co.uk . I turn it on and then go out for the day, or if at night go to bed quite happily. My insurers haven't put any excess on my policy, though the...

Re: This sounds interesting
Peg, do you have a picture of your technique? Thanks, Doug er... well, I borrowed a digital camera last night and took some snaps and set up a website.. I don't have many examples 'in stock' at the moment - but hopefully the pics give a vague impression of what I mean. The blue dish actually has bi...

Re: Couple of big bubbles during slump
three large bubbles had formed, 2 were a bit smaller about 2-3inches and one was large about 4-5 inches. They are all sort of in the center, though none are around the one hole that is drilled in the mold. Drill holes in the mould under the bubbles and reslump - aligning the bubbles to the holes. O...

Silver leaf effect
I have fused gold leaf in a 'Bullseye sandwich' with good results - now I want a silver equivalent. Of course silver leaf itself will merely stain the glass yellow - any ideas as to what I can use to get a metallic silver leaf effect? Is there such a thing as platinum leaf?

I tack fuse DURING the slump - I full fuse the frit first to make it 'bead up'. I get flat-bottomed beads that tack on giving a raindrop effect. All this is Bullsye - full fuse at 836, slump at 760 (celsius). The slump is quite hot, and I'm not sure what would happen with a steep-sided slump, whethe...

If it's compatible, then there's no such thing as waste... make your own multi-colored sheet as thick as you want. Tony OK - say I want to make a 5-6mm thick sheet from scrap Bullseye (dimensions 1 - 20mm by 3mm thick). How hot/how long do I fire to get a nicely flat sheet, assuming a very approxim...

Hi - I'm based in Bristol (ie southwest England), had my kiln for about 8 months now and currently building up a series of dishes for sale in local galleries. I also make dichroic jewellery - a great way to use up the scraps! If Bohle do a class in London I'm in.. I'll ask Lisa about it next time I ...
