I have done lots of fusing in this kiln, although mine is an old one I don't suppose it's changed much. My switch has Lo, 2,3,4,5,6,Hi. If I have a mullite kiln shelf in it, I set in on 4 to start and that will heat the kiln at about 500F per hour. That's probably the upper edge of safe heating, you...

Yes, you have to keep notes. I just did some tests of colored bits on top of a solid layer of silver foil, on top of black. Took me quite a while to figure out what was what on the results - no notes. I am going to have to retest, because I can't believe what I got. See, I think I know my glass and ...

Well, I have had some trouble with hi-temp wire. It seems ok if you make a loop and stick the two ends in, but something I did that had wire across it broke. Can't exactly remember the circumstances. If the glass is still tinking and breaking as you were taking it out of the kiln then it certainly s...

Re: cutting table surface. A little cushion is nicer to cut on, but I don't like carpet because small bits of glass get in it and scratch your glass and you can't really wipe up liquid spills. I use upholstery vinyl, which is just enough cushion and easy to sweep up. The cutting table is really THE ...

Wow, you can actually go that fast? How long does it take to get to 1450 in your kiln? I've gone 500/hour with only occasional cracking but anything over that is a problem. The glass doesn't seem to have separated very far, so its not like any thermal shock that I have experienced. Usually the glass...

BE marks their aventurine glass with compatible stickers, so I assume it shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps some of your scrap wasn't compatible? I know the fracture/streamer glass is never stickered, so maybe some of the other scraps were iffy as well. You could take a chunk of the broken stuff and do...

Well I'm still trying to get the right size blank to go around the mold, regardless of whose wrist it will fit. Also, I find it really difficult to tuck the ends under without sending the form skittering across the kiln shelf (or worse, knocking the glass askew). The bracelet molds I have are the on...

So, I haven't had time to check the board regularly for months. What happened to this year's exhibition?

OK, I would like to have another program check my computer. I have Norton protection, but my computer is behaving as if there is something else going on behind the scene (weird memory lapses, slow-downs, etc). Norton says no viruses. But... Now I may be totally paranoid, but the link that was posted...

Is your kiln manually controlled, or does it have a digital controller? The only real difference (except that ceramic kilns will fire higher) between ceramic and glass kilns is that the glass kilns usually have elements in the lid and ceramic kilns never do. If your kiln is manually controlled, then...
