Uro & Celadon not playing nice

Hi everyone, I fired a Uro (clear with ruby red broken up stringers - smooth to the touch) to a Spectrum Celadon - 12x12. I used a slow ramp up 200 dph to 1465 and held 10 min. Of course, there are more rates, but they're up with my kiln in the shed, and I'm here in my chair. The celadon crack...

Re: Adding a rim to future bowls

Yes, Jerry, you're right. Anytime I've done this, I've used Spectrum. It seems like I've cut hundreds of circles but probably not  When I do cut Bullseye circles, it's with a prayer and a wish. The last one I tried a week ago, it went its own way. I was able to make one since I hadn't c...

Re: Adding a rim to future bowls

I've made rims to go around a combed glass circle. My center was placed inside one of Laurie's ss rings, fired and combed. This kept the edges very even. When it was done, I cut three separate rings, usually two clear, and one color to match. They were then placed around my combed piece, refired ver...

Re: what would happen if

I've done a successful pot melt in my Skutt Hot Start. I used small (4") pots raised on a stainless steel former (Laurie Spray's) on top of a ss former for the dam. I've also used the mesh melt as suggested. With the short depth of this kiln, you don't quite get the flow you would in a deeper k...

Re: Website

Oh, my, I didn't expect such detailed and valuable information from all of you. I can't thank you enough - you've given me focus and a place to start. My thinking was all over the place. I had already checked out others websites - some are so chic and sophisticated that I just got stuck all over aga...

Website

Hi everyone, My son is a programmer and is currently developing a website for me. Neither one of us has the artistic background for what needs to be on it. Do I need an artist statement, etc? Can anyone direct me to a source where I can read and learn; I don't want to "copy" anyone else's ...

Thanks Steve,

I finally did that! Should have done it to begin with, but, of course, didn't. It's in the kiln now.

Re: Scheduling question

Laurie, No, the base is one layer with the coarse frit and Santa as the second. The holly on the hat is two leaves cut in half with the berries on it. So, that makes four, right, but just in that one spot which causes the unevenness. That's what I have to anneal for if I'm correct. Thanks about the ...

Scheduling question

I have a question about a schedule for a soft fuse. It's a 12" square with a Santa Clause cut out on top; it's all 96 glass. I sprintkle coarse frit around the Santa. On the Santa hat I put on two holly leaves (cut in half) with three red berries - one on each of the leaf ends and one on top of...

Re: Tile Saw problem

Thanks everyone, I have no idea about the threading, but my son does own an impact drill/driver. I guess I'll just have to wait until they get home from vacation - ughh!!! I wanted to cut up some glass. I guess if I use the saw with the reg. tile blade then I'll lose glass. Not sure if it would make...

Tile Saw problem

Hi all, I have an MK 100 diamond tile saw. I lent the saw to my son; he used the tile blade (not my glass blade) for cutting tile. Now the nut is frozen and I can't switch it out for the glass blade. I've been putting PB Blaster on it every day, and then trying to loosen the nut. No movement at all....

Re: ceramic and porcelain tiles as dams?

I cut up a 12 x 12" ceramic tile into 1 1/2 strips to use as supports. They warped also, but I also use them as dams when I just want to hold fiber paper in place. I then cut up a small kiln shelf 10 x 10" - it does the job without the warping. If you have a lot, you can use them once, the...

Re: Organizing and inventory

I just read a post the other day from Steve Immerman of Clearwater Glass about an inventory program he found on line. It's under the Business link; his description is very thorough and worth taking a look at. I think the software was called Artist Archive and was very reasonable cost-wise. It helps ...

Fossil Vitra without the top glass???

Hi all, Does anyone think this is viable? I want to make some flowers - petals and leaves - using the fossil vitra technique - sort of. I will put the leaves on the paper, sift the powder on top of the leaves and petals, slide them over to a clean sheet of thin fire, and full fuse without adding any...

Re: Minimum kiln depth for drop ring?

I've done it in both of my Skutt kilns - I think they're 6.5" deep. Your glass should be a little thicker than normal too - about three pieces of glass - then the sides don't get too thin as it drops especially if you plan to slice off the lip. You don't get as much flow for the short drop, so ...

Thanks Al,

I've been using an even more primitive method, handwritten notes, by date. It takes me forever to find what I need. Thank you so much for your time and generosity.

Re: Papyros fiber paper

Thanks everyone - I really didn't check the archives. I didn't even think about them. I also didn't realize that the Bullseye came in the 10' x 41" roll either. I had only seen it in the big roll that costs 900+ which, of course, I can't/won't purchase at one time. I appreciate your not taking ...

Papyros fiber paper

Hi everyone and Happy Thanksgiving, Has anyone used the Papyros fiber paper. Pros/Cons?? I use Bullseye thinfire all the time, and buy it in the 200 20.5 x20.5 sheet pack. I like the idea of the Papyros as it comes in a studio roll or a craft roll - within my budget. I just can't buy the Bullseye ro...
