Re: Box question

Thanks Cynthia and Nancy, I haven't tried firepolishing it yet, but will do so this week. Next time, I'll use more glass. I think my weight was off (too little), as my husband ruined our scale by putting it in the sink  ; I didn't see it and turned on the water. I just bought a new scale yester...

Box question

I recently bought a new mold - an elliptical shaped base and lid for a box. If you have the book "The Joy of Fusing", it's in there. I thought I'd practice with some smashed up glass from a broken piece since I've never really done a kiln casting before. Anyway, I like the way it turned ou...

Re: Wearing gloves when cutting glass

Quite some time ago, when I was doing stained glass work, I bought a roll of this green tape (looks like masking tape) that you wrapped around your fingers for protection from glass when grinding. I used it for awhile, but found that it loosened and got in the way when I was grinding small glass pie...

Re: buying a stand alone controller

I currently have two Skutt kilns (120 v., Hot Start Pro and Skutt Square 14") with the three button controllers. Is is possible to change the controllers out for one of these programmable 12 button ones. I truly get tired of scrolling to the correct number, often shooting past what I want. Woul...

Re: Tack Fusing Problem

Okay - I tried to upload a picture, but it said it was invalid. I have no idea how to fix that. The pieces are 12" round (broken one) and 12" square (cracked one). My first schedule was 300 900 15 500 1100 0 100 1250 30 9999 1465 10 9999 950 0 50 800 0 100 700 300 100 0 Morganica, by the w...

Tack Fusing Problem

I've been having problems lately with tack fusing. I'm using Spectrum 96 and a Skutt 14, and full fusing the blank which was clear with a Uro white streaky on top, then doing a decoration and tack fusing, then slumping. The first one completely shattered, so I changed the 2nd slump scheule from 100 ...

Re: bottle glass firing schedule

I've just cut off some bottles to make glasses with my tile saw. Then I ground them flat with my lap grinder, but I'd like to get the inside of the lip a little less sharp. I used my regular grinder, but it left the not-so-pretty grinder mark. Is it possible to use my dremel to smooth this out? I'm ...

Dichro Slide

Is dichro slide supposed to go under clear glass or fire hot? I put some on some rather bland pendants - on top. I only took it to fire polish - 1350. It looked funny to me as I was carefull applying it; it seemed some had come off the edges. I rubbed the top of one of the pieces and it came off on ...

Ric,
How do you use the nail polish remover - by itself, dry and then slump?? I've never heard of using this and am interested in learning about it. Thanks.

Re: fiber blanket under pot melt?

Besides the clear glass make sure your kiln shelf is newly kilnwashed. I've found that if my kiln wash has had repeated uses, it tends to stick more, and I've lowered my top temp to 1650. Hope this helps.

Re: using water pump with MK 100--or just a hose?

I have my saw on a rolling platform so it can be pushe out to the middle of the garage when I need it. I use two 5 gallon buckets of water with the pump in one. When the water gets low, I simply move the pump to the other bucket, put the empty bucket under the drain spout, pull out the plug and drai...
