Thanks for all the replies! I have an excellent resource locally ( I just recently discovered it) and made my first glass purchase there. I do love shopping locally when I can! :)

Thanks for the replies. I did purchase Brad's book "contemporary fused glass" and have been reading and highlighting. Love it!

Your favorite website for buying fusible glass and why?

There are so many choices of websites and glass, and it can be overwhelming for a newbie! I'm looking for some specific website recommendations to make my first glass purchase. Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Does glass always need fire polishing when fused in a mold?

I've been reading about fire polishing, but the fusing classes I attended didn't cover this topic.

Re: Help putting frit in mold

Susan,
I'm going to try a mini square jewelry mold I found at delphiglass.com. I'm brand new to fusing, so wish me luck! :D
Thanks for the advice everyone!

Help putting frit in mold

I want to try putting a solid color frit and a little dichroic frit in a jewelry mold (earrings and pendants). I've watched videos online about slightly mounding the glass in the center, but I can't find info on how to mix two colors of frit. Do I put the solid on the bottom and sprinkle the dichroi...

Re: Just how warm will my kiln room get?

Good info, thanks! What about the blast of heat when the kiln is crashed? My food supply will be about 4-5 feet from kiln and DH thinks we should put a barrier (fire resistant drywall) in front of food rack. Any thoughts or opinions on that?

Just how warm will my kiln room get?

I just ordered my first kiln...yippee! It will be in the basement, and I currently store canned goods and extra rice, etc down there. The room is 12x14 and the kiln interior is 16" square. I plan on using fans to vent through the window. Approximately how many degrees can I expect the room temp...

Re: Buying first kiln...will specific project fit?

I agree about choosing the square kiln over octaganal. The square is my first choice, but I don't know if I can fuse 14 inches of glass on 15 inches of shelf? And can I put a 14.5 inch slumping mold on the 15 shelf?

Re: Buying first kiln...will specific project fit?

Well, the shelf is 15 on one side (and possibly both sides, there may be a typo in description)

Buying first kiln...will specific project fit?

Plan on making a project using 6x14 inch glass base which I will full fuse, then slump into mold which is 6x14.5 and 3 inches high. I'm considering 2 kilns: 1. Clamshell with 14x15 shelf, 6.5 deep. 2. Top load with 15.5 inch octagon shelf. Feel comfortable project will fit top load, but what about c...
