Depending on the complexity of your project, perhaps some of the new(ish) PMC clays would work for you. I know they now have a bronze clay.

Thanks for everyone's input, I really appreciate it. I'm thinking this will be a good "starter" saw. I bought Jennifer's Result blade and the MK-303 blade she was selling the other day. When they arrive, I guess I'll dig the saw out of the box and try to figure out where it's going to live...

You've got to take SS up to 1425° (I believe) in order for it to fully fuse. I used it on some piece I tack fused to 1400° and it left a splotchy-blotchy mess.

You can pull cane from a vitrograph set up. Different sized holes will result in different thicknesses of canes.
