Didn't I read here once, long ago, that it might be helpful to bevel the bottom edges of the blank so that it could slip more easily without catching? Or did I just dream that up?

Also: Is the side that catches always in the same position, relative to kiln?

I don't have a lot of experience on this, but I'm thinking you'll have a difficult time dropping three layers 10". My guess would be that you'll stretch the blank so thin you'll get holes. I seem to remember a heuristic that says you can drop 1" for the first 2 layers, and then an addition...
