A fountain pump will work -- just make sure there is sufficient head to get the water up to where you need it.

Search google for "fountain pump"

Cabochon sized. We make LOTS of them.

Grinder vs. Diamond Belt

Will a 70 grit diamond belt will "eat" glass significantly faster than a typical Glastar-type grinder?

I grind lots of small pieces to shape and I'm looking to speed things up.

Re: Air Purifiers - Ionic or HEPA? Any advice?!

What does everyone use for air purification in their studios? I've been reading about these Ionic Breeze systems that have a Stainless Steel filter that can be cleaned and re-used but I wonder if this will do the job. How heavy and what size are the particles we produce from grinding, cleaning up t...

Hi Rodney - You'll get a variety of frits sizes so you may want to plan on sifting them with different size meshes to sort them out. Lundstrom Fusing book 3 covers this (including diagrams of a disposal-based fritter). It also includes some info on what size frits to expect in what proportions. And ...

I use the same approach (chad 'n squeeze) that Cynthia describes with great results.

My schedule is slightly different -- I soak at 1250 for an hour and then AFAP to whatever full temp I need for the given project.

I've clear capped some pretty bumpy pieces this way with out any bubbles.

Powder 'n Frit Storage

As my collection of powder and frit has grown I've been looking for a good way to store them. It turns out CD racks (like the one pictured below) work perfectly for those BE 1 lb jars:

The window is great for the first few years, but eventually goes cloudy and becomes useless. Mine took about five years to go from "best thing since sliced bread" to "just crumbs". I suspect how long the window lasts depends on how much glue and other organic materials you fire....

Did you ever meet anyone who, as an adult, bought the house they grew up in and moved back there?

Inevitably they find out it really isn't the house that they missed.

I have a Jen Ken with the window (http://www.izm.com/glass/open.jpg) -- and I can't imagine not having it. It was absolutely worth the money.

Try searching the board (and the old archive using the link above) for "silk screening". You may also want to search for mica -- and consider a photo-resist blasting technique where you fuse a layer of mica (such as Pearl Ex) and then blast away parts to leave an image. You could also try ...

Re: More about teachers

The G.A.S. voting thread shifted a bit into conversation about good teaching.... and lack thereof. I thought I'd shift that thread to a new heading and plop it here to post my query. I think we all agree that folks who take a class in anything, then hang out their teaching shingle the next weekend ...

The circumstance you posted is very "lawsuit-persuable". There are two things one can get out of a lawsuit: 1) make them stop and 2) recover damages. There are usually more cost-effective ways to get someone to stop that kind of behavior. A registered cease-and-desist letter with a threat...

small observation about big

Cool stuff Lani - thanks for posting.

I find interesting the relative lack of bold, primary colors -- even as smaller design elements (except for the red in the Lamb Design Studios design) across all the work.

Not a good or a bad thing -- just suprising.

I think you're right, Paul.... even if I don't want someone to use my name, as long as the statement is fact (and, in some cases, even stated opinion), there's nothing I can do about it. It's such a fine line.... I do think Judith's original post is an example of stretching things a bit far, don't ...
