That makes sense, more to think of.
Can you still make thicker slabs without the bottom elements... Just slower?

Re: Best kiln
That is a lot of good information... It's so hard to decide on where to start with this adventure. Besides deciding on what style of kiln to get I'm trying to decide on how big to get, or how much money to spend. Bert was giving me some great advice in the newcomers forum on heating zones, made a to...

Re: More kiln questions
I live in Hawaii, I do have a 220v 50amp extra plug so I guess I'm good on power for most things. I like the GL44AD, thinking more of kiln casting and thicker panels. My wife likes the Pearl44 thinking more of fusing and slumping. Are there any big advantages of these two kilns or is it really just ...

Best kiln
Can you help me choosing a kiln... I'm a glass blower wanting to fuse some furnace made parts together into larger thick panels. I'm looking at kilns like the Paragon Pearl 44 or Skutt GM1414. They both seem great but I don't understand the big difference in price. Is the Pearl that much better? Doe...

Re: More kiln questions
Ok so I called Paragon and tried to ask a bunch of questions. They said the top elements are Muffled in the top... Not sure I really understand but is this any good?
I'm very lost. I'd like to buy a larger clam shell type kiln but I have limited power so I don't have a ton of options.

More kiln questions
When fusing, is it important to have elements on the top? I'm really interested in the Pargon Pearl 44 but it only has side elements. Would this kiln work well for fusing and dam casting 1-2" thick?
Please help!!!

Re: Size of kiln
Ok now I'm totally lost, that kiln is a front loading kiln with no elements on the top. I thought that for fusing you really wanted elements on the top. Plus it seems like the front loading would be harder to use. When you said you had trouble in the corners of the oven was it in these Gl24s? For th...

Re: Size of kiln
Ok I've got to ask, why do you like those? Is it just size or material?

Re: Size of kiln
Thanks, that makes sense. It's more about even heating than size.
Just curious, what are you found of in the 24" range?

Re: Size of kiln
Ok I think I have to narrow it down. I really want to take blown parts, fuse them together and slump them into a shape. I know there is a ton to learn but first get a kiln. No I don't have much room but that will have to work itself out. I don't want to invest all my money but I don't want money to ...

Size of kiln
I'm trying to pick a new kiln but don't know anything. When slumping/fusing how much room should you leave between work and edge of kiln? When kiln casting how much room between mold and kiln?
Thanks
