Re: firing problem

Have you actually checked to see what it is actually drawing with an amp meter? Do all the elements work? Are they glowing red?

Re: firing problem

It's obviously not powerful enough. The skutt is drawing 20% more than your kiln, there are ways to put bigger more powerful elements into it. It becomes a matter of how much do you want to mess around with a new kiln. If they told you it would work at 208v and it obviously doesn't they should do so...

Re: firing problem

If you look at comparable sized kiln from Skutt, http://skutt.com/products-page/glassmaster-kilns/gm-22cs/ Their 24" brick kiln running at 208v draws 35 amps. If you want to keep the kiln you could consider re wiring the kiln with bigger elements that will draw more power. If you look at the sp...

Re: firing problem

You say they told you to add fiber PAPER, fiber paper isn't going to have any real insulating properties. You would need to add some fiber blanket or board to make any real difference in my opinion. This is not an ideal solution at all, I'd return it for a fiber kiln or try and sell it.

Re: firing problem

Yes the 208v will make a big difference. When I moved in to a commercial bay I had to rework my schedules in all my kilns. I also added an extra element to one of my kilns that was a bit sluggish at 240v and was almost unusable at 208v. Adding some fiber will make a difference but I doubt it will be...

Re: Gloves for Cyclone 3824

I cut the hands off of all the sandblasters I've ever used. All I wear are latex, nitrile or dish gloves. Much better feel for what you are trying to do.

This works great with my set-up as my dust collector doesn't let anything escape through the arm holes. You set-up may differ,

I buy all my bits from http://thk.hk/index.php they come from hong kong and work just as well as the ones you are getting from CRL For example here are three 1" bits for $6.80... yes around $2.20 each and the shipping is only $4.00 http://thk.hk/upload/s20%20or%20above.JPG http://thk.hk/onlines...

Re: MK -100 saw water source

I got tired on messing around with the pumps, I now use warm water straight from the tap. It is supplied through a 1/4" plastic tube used to bring water to fridges etc.

the warm water is nice if you live in a cold climate where the tap water can be VERY cold.

Re: thick glass

i've been fusing two pieces of 3/4 together to make 1.5" then cutting with a tile saw and fire polishing to achieve a thicker blank. You can see a fine line but it's not too noticeable.

Re: Exposure Units

Yes, you want uv bulbs for exposing screen printing emulsions as well as photomask in the letralite. There are different types of uv bulbs available there are BLB and BL, the BLB are the "purple" black light uv bulbs, your letralite came with a BL which is a uv bulb but doesn't have the fi...

They have two different ones on display at home depot here. You may be have similar there, you can inspect them much better than a pic online. I've seen them for rent at the local tool rental place also, might be worth a rent. If you rent be careful about their blades as they'll hose you for any use...

IPS is the maker of the "dyson" shelves as IPS bought out Dyson. They have offices in England as well as China. My guess is that they are made in China, and that the shelves Euclids sells are the same as the Dyson, IPS shelves. IPS Ceramics | Category: News | Jan 2009 IPS Ceramics Ltd is p...

This is me drilling by hand two large holes into one of Leslie's beautiful panels. The holes were 60mm (2 3/8") and all the way through the 3/4" thick piece.

Can you say NERVOUS???

Re: Removing glass plug from diamond drill bit

I maybe should qualify my referral, I don't drill holes smaller than 4mm as such I can't comment on the quality of the bits smaller than that.

I drill a lot of holes in glass and granite up to 1.5 inches thick with these and have had great success. I am drilling mostly 6-12mm holes.
