Re: Float differences

Where I live there are glass shops that replace old windows and put in new. I ask for the large (8' x 5') storm windows and take off the aluminum that surrounds the glass. Perhaps you can find a business to partner with. Good luck. Oh, some places recycle glass at the dump and you might ask about th...

Re: How to back light

I don't have answers to 'how', but I do have some small kernel of info that people here may/may not already know. I have been interested in lighting of glass for over 8 years, but have not been able to get my s&%t together. When I began researching one very interesting thing I found was that lig...

Re: Silver Staining

Please bear with me, as I'm not familiar with silver or staining of silver. ThinFire was used, but where it wasn't laid was stained? Am I correct in assuming that no TF means no glass was on the shelf without the TF? So does silver let off gases or elements of some sort during the firing that then s...

Re: Combing with Reactives

Thank you for the photo. I am not sure if the long wooden handled barbecue fork will work or not, but I thought I'd try. Do you spray it with anything to lessen the chances of glass sticking to it? I thought I'd try it on a SS cookie sheet with glass on it. I'd spray the sheet with boron nitrate for...

Re: Black plate with a red puddles window

Thank you for the link to the tutorials. I am excited to experiment. I loved the "puddles" and also the "pressed glass"tutorials. I will be trying these out this fall.I will post my efforts when completed. Thank you again.

I did a search for Paul Tarlow's puddles and found nothing here. Where did you find it? TIA

Re: Black plate with a red puddles window

Thank you for posting this. I love your work. It is exactly my color pallet... I love black, red and white. I am going to have to read that tutorial that inspired you. Perhaps I can get good results, too. Thank you again for sharing your lovely work.

Re: Sugar Skull Mask

I am not familiar with the term Sugar Skull. Is that a process or type of mask? I like your strong colors and design elements.Only recently have I explored some of the Mexican skull art. It evokes strong emotion. Nice job.

Re: Blackbird

Very well done. Nice detail. The vignette effect of light in the center and dark on the edges is so effective. I'm especially fond of thistles, so I love that element, too. I'm sure you will get a lot of interest in this piece.

I enjoyed the story that went with this piece. It is the desire of every artist I know to have the connection you did. You are on the right path! Congratulations.

Re: Combing with Reactives

What does your combing tool look like? Is it a comb? Or do you use a single tine? I am curious, as I've wanted to try this on some pieces that I didn't like as they are, and thought with some heat and a comb, I could alter it enough to enjoy it. Does it have a long handle? I guess I'm very curious.....

Re: Blaster Question

I use a HF pressure pot. I built my own blasting box about 40 years ago. It isn't high tech in the least. Plywood; caulked, sloping bottom, repurposed cold-air-return register grill for the base. I have had two air compressors in this time. I also did not use a pressure pot until 1990"s. I have...

Re: Best Wet Band Sander

I had used the larger floor model of CRL's sander in Avery Anderson's class. I liked the feel of it and the natural stance I held while using it. I could use my body to move the article to get broad even results and received so my compliments on the pieces I cold worked that I decided to buy one. Bu...

Re: kiln wash

Always something to learn on this board. I like the "fresh cut glass" suggestion for scraping and the sander and the open mesh. Wow. I've learned a lot by reading today. Thanks!
I love Bert's suggestion of planned texture in the application of the kiln wash. Great idea.

Re: Setting up a sandblaster

I have used a sandblaster for about 41 years. I have always had a desiccant filter. It is more than a valve to open and let water out, it filters out the water and anything else that might be there. You can dry them in your oven on low to remove moisture or buy a new one. I swear by them. You can us...

When I was writing you back the links above looked normal. As soon as I hit submit they turned into the look of the attachment in my previous post. I was using Firefox. I am now using Safari. I will make notes on whether or not Safari does this behavior or just Firefox.

Re: Board display is 4-7x deeper than usual

When I reload it may or may not clear it. I have reloaded from 5-8 times before it goes away and then when it comes back I notice that the dashes in the blue type above this window display in code... which makes me wonder why it is diverting to code. I'm befuddled. :?: Has anyone else reported this ...
