Re: Tile Saw Modifications

Use my glass blade on acrylic? Won't that gum up the blade?

What is UHMW polyethylene? Can it be purchased in a home improvement store?

Re: Tile Saw Modifications

Thank you all for taking the time to post a reply. As for the table top, acrylic was the word I was looking for. Maybe I will just put an old 7" wood blade on my tile saw and cut through the pre-mounted acrylic top. That would be a slightly thicker blade and also make sure the opening will be p...

Tile Saw Modifications

I have a Rigid 7 inch wet tile saw with an MK blade. The motor and blade are above the rolling table. I know this brand/size of saw isn't what is preferred by most of you but it has become my best friend over the past several months. #1 - water pump - I don't think my water pump is delivering enough...

Re: How to take photos

Thanks for that. I can make glass but I am not a very good photographer. Always dread taking pics.

Re: Fusing glass to animal skull

I'm not a pro on here and I hardly ever post, but... Another thing to think about is the difference between "raw" bones and "cooked" bones. As an example you can give a dog/cat raw chicken bones because they don't splinter as they are chewed. But, you should never give a dog/cat ...

Re: ramping schedule

I worked with an infinite switch during my first year and a half of kiln forming and it taught me a lot. There's something about working "old school" that is a great teacher. How are you reading the kiln's current temp... do you have an analog needle gauge or a digital, numerical read-out?...

Re: Pen/pencil that won't fire off

Lucie - I've been using Decocolor for years in my stained glass. And I love the fact that it doesn't come off in the grinder or saw. Never tried it on kiln shelves!

seachange - that's another great idea!

Re: Pen/pencil that won't fire off

Hmmm, I tried my mechanical pencil several times but it burned off of my "silver" kiln shelf. Will try a regular pencil next time. Thanks!

Pen/pencil that won't fire off

Is there a pen or pencil that will stay on a kiln shelf or ceramic mold and will not disappear after firing? Mostly want this for kiln shelves that I use for firing with silver leaf as well as fill weights for some CDV molds. Isn't there something that potters use?

Thanks in advance,
Jeanice

Re: Opinions needed for new kiln

I kept wondering why a fiber lid would be better. Now you've answered my question. Does the fiber shed any particles at all? Does the brick shed terribly? I imagine that with all the expansion and contraction of the brick it would shed particles no matter how well you keep the lid clean. But won't t...

Re: Opinions needed for new kiln

Thank you Mr. Walker. Your opinion means a lot! Viewing window: With my current kilns I do open the door to peek. I thought it would be nice to have a window but not if it's going to become useless. How long do you think it takes before it becomes too cloudy? I usually run my main kiln 5-6 times a w...

Opinions needed for new kiln

I'm in the process of purchasing another kiln. It WAS going to be a 240v but medical bills got in the way... so the Paragon CS-16S is currently my first choice. Question #1 - viewing window or bead door for peaking at slumping projects? I'm currently playing in the flame and I've made a few pretty u...
