I can't download the pdf's from the Schott website Emma, just thought I'd mention that because I don't like recommending something then it doesn't work. If enough of us mention it to the Schott people they might fix it though. Good website apart from that. Paul Hi Paul.. I just went there and the d...

Re: Need basic help on preparing to slump simple project....
I've never slumped before. I want to slump a small vase with some dichroic. Do you FIRST have to fire the glass (fuse) before slumping? Also, how do you determine the exact size and shape to place over the mold? Is there a slumping for idiots tutorial or video I can get my hands on? Thanks. You mig...

Hi Jim, . My firing schedule was too long, and the sterling silver I was using as the loops was causing the glass to discolour. Sarian Hi Sarin. Did you see the post/pic that I posted about a week ago about fine silver turning BE 0124 black where it emerges from the glass sandwich? For beads or som...

I don't think so. You are coming down from above the annealing range in both cases.Cindy next door wrote:
Since I've found I can push the fusing cool down, can I do the same with the slump cool down. Is it really that different?

Fine Silver interaction with BE 0124 red. with a pic
fine silver wire sandwiched between 2 pieces of BE0124.
Not what I expected, but a nice touch. When you look at the chicklet end, on the area where the fine silver enters the glass, is a very nice sea blue.

120 seems awfully coarse to me, unless that's the texture you want. 220 to 400 would be my choice for a finer etch. - Barbara I am doing this right now, and 60 grit gives a very nice matt finish. For glass you are not trying to get a fine polish like you would if you are polishing rocks. I don't kn...

Re: tumbling help needed
I'm looking for some help with tumbling small cabs and beads to impart an etched finish. I recently purchased 120 grit silicon carbide to do the job, placed it in a tumbler with water (about an inch over the carbide and glass) and proceeded to tumble. I tumbled for 4 hours with absolutely no result...

110j to ridgideze or not to ridgidize
I am making a drop out mold with 4 holes in it. I would like to get the most firings out of this drop out mold that I can. Should I ridgidize it(':?:')
Fire it before ridgidizing
kiln wash it
or just handle it with lots of TLC
Thanks Jim
