Like many fusers, I systematically use the irrid on the bottoms of all bowls to avoid kilnwash sticking.... Ron, have you standblasted a design onto the bottom of a bowl and then fused.... the design still stays there, I would presume? Might be a subtle little trick to try..... 8)

Well, they say misery loves company. I just slumped a kiln-load of bowls for a show.... and fired at fusing temps. Nice mess. Sigh. I'm supposed to deliver tomorrow morning for an opening on Friday. I *hate* it when Mercury's in retrograde!

Even our community college doesn't keep pregnant women (and nursing mothers) out of glass, jewelry, and other art classes that use toxic substances. I've had to butt heads over it, good grief. And few teachers even bother to be concerned. This is another one of those areas where lack of professional...

There really aren't that many wholesale hoops these days when it comes down to it. The biggest one is commitment, and that's defined by being willing to pay for a business telephone line with it's attached yellow pages listing.... and being willing to commit to a minimum opening order which in some ...

Is there a larger version than the one on the Skutt website.... that clamshell only holds one bowl? It looks great otherwise, but I would want one coffin size.

Well, I haven't read the bill, but it will be useful to me. I donate work monthly, most of it recent and almost all of my work is relatively high in labor which I'm now giving away. I think this is one of those situations where anything more than what I'm getting (materials at wholesale) is better! ...

There is a bill that just cleared Senate and is expected to clear the House that allows artists to deduct fair market value on their donated works.... you just have to get a written appraisal to prove fmv. This was discussed recently on The Crafts Report board.... check there for more information. I...

What a question! Look at the resulting beauty of a potmelt with all those swirls of color. Can't you imagine those swirls being manipulated into a gorgeous vase?? I can.... I can also imagine something just the opposite which is why I'm so curious if anyone has ever tried this. I will just have to t...

And this is one of the best lessons in using controllers.... they may make your life easier, but you still have to be there to control them. They are not infallible and runaway kilns are not unheard of.... I don't run my kilns when I'm not around. It's good for the human in charge to check them ever...

If I could free up my kilns for a pot melt I'd try it myself, too! But, I'm working like crazy to get a dozen bowls for a show and in the midst of moving.... yikes! Surely, somebody out there has a less-than-awesome pot melt they can try to drop through a mold? Yes?? Does it sound potentially cool t...

Q: Pot Melt Masters

This may have been mentioned already, but I missed it, if so.... have any of you tried putting a potmelt through a drop mold? Is it cool or uuug-ly?
Thanks.... I want to learn from your mess... er, experience before I try this.

Brad, what do you think about adding another forum for teaching-related conversation? It's become such an issue and it's a recurring theme. Just a thought.
