Re: new work

Very very beautiful Osnat! I love the little bit of red added to the second one. Are you still doing the - landscapes? (The class from hell) Please let me know if you are ever near Northern California?

Re: issue with BE white opaque 013

Interesting...more problems with 0013 opaque white? I wonder if this particular glass is on the edge of incompatibility? I would love to know if anyone else has had problems with 0013 opaque white? I contacted Bullseye over a month ago and they started an investigation...I shared my firing schedules...

Re: Cave Art

I got an email response from bullseye today: "Our technicians have had a chance to look over all of the information related to the cracking in your pieces, and to do some testing with the 0013 powder. They’ve determined that what you’re experiencing is the exact same type of cracks that appear ...

Re: Cave Art

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I am working on finding out what went wrong but so far it is looking like it is an incompatibility problem. I have been talking with Bullseye and I think they are also running some tests. I just did a new piece with everything the same except no WHITE powders,...

Re: Cave Art

Keep in mind that this piece was fired twice, and the second time was a tack fuse at 1400. The top temperature this piece reached was 1500F. Plus I did a repeat piece and only went up to 1480F, same annealing schedule...then I let it sit for a week after it was completely cooled down, I never lifted...

Re: Cave Art

Thanks for the compliments! Here is a close up of the cracks. The cracks are only on one side of the piece, they do not transfer to the backside (medium amber) YET! The cracks are only on the side with the crackle; French Vanilla powder 20%, Opaque white powder 40%, white opal 40% (all are newly pur...

Cave Art

I took both of Bob Leatherbarrow's classes last year... I have been planning a HUGE cave art piece ever since. This is 24" by 20" and under 1/4 inch thick. I did not do the full "crackle" here-thinking too many lines would make it too busy. I may have gotten carried away with col...

Re: dichroic COE82

You can send your own float glass to CBS and they will coat it for you. This way you can make sure the glass is from the same source and it will be compatable. *Not so easy or economical from Australia.

Re: sifting with a doily

I have stiffened stencils and paper by laying long pieces of stinger (straight) ontop and attaching with tape or a dab of tacky glue, or even museum putty. It makes a stiff frame that can be pinched with your fingers and lifted off after your frit has been sifted on. The disadvantage is you may have...

Great work John! I really like what you are doing with your glass and your metal work. I hope someday soon you can quit the day job. It's inspiring to see a fellow artist putting himself out there. =D>

Re: Denver Kiln?

Thank you Bert and Al, I am now on a mission to learn more about controllers and relays! So far I have looked on eBay and googled Digitry & Watlow. I know I want to buy a new (as opposed to used) controller since I had a very frightening experience with a run-away kiln last year. I think I would...

Re: Custom decals

I have contacted Amy at inplainsite Art about these decals. I have an idea to use these decals but they cannot be printed with the color white. I plan to make decals of some flying Snow Geese, so I need white. :-k I am thinking of adding some paint to the back of the decal to get the white for the b...

Re: Denver Kiln?

Ok I have more info on the DENVER kiln I was thinking of trading for my Glassglow. This Denver kiln comes with a West 4400 1/4-DIN Setpoint programmer? , the controller came with the kiln from the Denver factory. The kiln is fiber both top and sides, it is 41 by 27 inches inside and 18 inches deep. ...

How to Tell Good Art from Bad?

I wonder if this guy is an artist? How to Tell Good Art from Bad By Caleb Jacobo I recently read an article on BBC about technology and the arts by Eyal Gever, a digital sculptor. The article brought up a question that I feel is extremely relevant to modern Americans and the modern world: What is tr...

Re: Considering switching to Bullseye glass

You can always use both...I have an equal opportunity studio. Bullseye to the right, Spectrum & Uroboros to the left. It has worked just fine for me. I have never mixed the two until recently; A few months ago I did a series of bowls with 96 glass and then popped some handy little 90 wafers on t...
