i would add to the above: if your basement is unfinished, great. put your kiln under the window. use an orton kiln vent. keep all wood etc away from your kiln so if it does go weird nothing to burn. you want lots of lighting. i would love to have lots of 3 or 4 foot square tables on wheels. storage ...

i only have side elements. i use all the same sized shelves. i would think that top elements should be off for multiple shelf firing, but i do not know that. i have an orton kiln vent and zone controll on my kiln. that helps with evenivity. even with that i have to elevate the bottom shelf to above ...

i think that it was a factor of more mass in the kinl to heat. i fuse from 1 to 5 shelves in my kiln. there is a huge difference in process/ time with the addition/subtraction of each shelf. same in my test kiln. more mass = more time. i also find that when slumping off center to the elements that s...

i do not know about nova kilns. just make sure that the kiln goes up to above the temp that you will need for whatever ceramics you will be firing. also keep in mind insulating properties. ceramics tend to need slower ramps in temp than glass. that and the greater mass being fired point to needing a...

there are different grades of stainless. 316 is a good grade. the cheap ss bowls from k-mart are really prone to flaking. rosanna

hi rodney, i use boiling hot distilled water. add borax untill no more will dissolve. let cool. pour off the solution into a 1/2 gallon milk jug. add a few drops dish soap. spray with a mouth atomiser. rosanna
