Re: Clearance between mold and kiln wall

I chickened out and am using the big kiln. Rosanna, your warning about the temp was right on. The piece has 2 layers of small squares mixed between larger solid pieces and that has a tendency to crack on the slump. Plus it is a brand new mold and I'd hate to lose it on the first firing. Thanks for t...

Clearance between mold and kiln wall

I want to do a slump into a ceramic mold. There is only 1/8" clearance between the corners of the mold and the walls of the kiln. The elements are only on the top, not the sides. Am I asking for trouble if I try this?

Re: kilns and storms--power surges?

After a power surge turned on my Evenheat kiln when I was gone, I've stopped leaving it plugged in. Another time, a surge caused it to lose the Seg 0 info which stops it. It ran away to about 1700 degrees before I unplugged it. It has an old Rampmaster controller. Newer kiln from Skutt is supposed t...

Re: Uneven bowl slumping

You said you checked the mold and the shelf and found them to be level. Did you use a level on top of the glass after you put it in the mold?

Most of the manufacturers have very helpful tech support people. If you don't know the manufacturer, call your supplier and find out.

Both pieces are stunning, Nina. I love the combination of wood and glass because of the contrast. I love, love, love the sculpture Life of Trees. Hope it sells for you. I'd love to see it in a public setting where many people can enjoy it.

Re: Donut Bails

The only ones that are $10 are the small geometric pendants that I sell to girls under the age of 14. It often leads to other sales from the Mom. I am getting most this size done in 1 firing. I use a 1/2 inch wide painter's brush to flatten the top. Then I use a very small, angled painter's brush an...

More holds====more wear on the controller and relays===more replacement, maintenance? Just a suspicious person.

Donut Bails

I'm selling lots of the pendants made with Colour de Verre molds--easy to make, fun to experiment with color combos, priced from $10 to $20 with satin cord. I want to attach some of the pillow pendant pieces to beaded necklaces. I hate wire wrapping. So I wanted to use a donut bail to attach them. I...
