Sheet metal for slumping molds?

I am saving up for a bigger kiln & am lready planning out some projects & was wondering... I am using sheets of steel on my work table to protect them when I teach beadmaking. If I cut & made gentle bends in it is there any reason I could not use this material for slumping onto? I have a...

Take everthing in question with you.
Ah yes. I am a big fan of the 'take everything with you' school of thought!

Great advice.

I see where people have labels on the bottles they slump. Can someone please tell me how this is accomplished? One person mentioned decals? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Suzette HI Suzette, I have had no luck with saving labels, (I have not slumped bottles but used to remove ...

Hi Susan, I have not been wrapping for long but 22 & 24 work fine for me. I use soft wire though because I twist it quite tight in the channel around my cabs & I find 1/2 hard tends to chip them. If you are not doing it that way halfhard works great. Hi Amy, Thanks so much! I have a few. I w...

When I used the new bit I could see the channel as a cloudy ring around the cab because it ground into the clear. Am I doing something wrong? I have it placed as low as I can get it. Maybe I'm grinding too far in? I've only tried it on two cabs so I'll keep trying. Do I need to change the way I lay...

More dichro cabs

I know most of you do much more complex stuff. I am hoping to get a larger kiln by Christmas, (I can only fit a 6" shelf in my little Aim,) but here are some cabs I just finished wrapping -

I can't wait to try some big stuff!

Araldite Super-Ceramic and glass I used to do glass & china repair in another incarnation & the reference material I have recommends using Devcon 2-ton epoxy as the North American version of this product. I am not sure they are identical but I know they are very close & it is a great pr...

No problem...I think the correct spelling of the bottle ladies last name is
Schnabel.
As in 'Schnabel, Black Label?'

Sorry, I couldn't resist although I am probably the only one here old enough to remember that old ad.

Well, it was a 2 day class. 10 hours altogether. I am concentrating on just the one type of project for now as I basically took the class so I would be able to set my cabochons in a bezel. I think anything else at this point would be quite a strech for me but can't wait till I am finished my seasona...

I don't know if any lampworkers are capping czs. You may have a compatibility problem there...
I don't cap my cz's but I do know many other lampworkers do. Some cz's break, some beads crack. Size seems to be a factor. I would be interested to hear how it works out when fusing.

I have found you will get different effects up or down but also depending on the colors you use. I realize that the problem could be dichro floating up and making a rough spot on the surface. If they do this, I'll grind them down, recover and fire again. Instead of grinding any dichro away why not j...

Very pretty! A trick for putting cz's in beads is gluing them on the end of your mandrel, heating the spot on the bead where you want them to go & poking them in. This works very well for beads but of course cabs are a horse of a different color. Has anyone tried making small pellets out of kiln...
