It all makes perfect sense. Thank you so much. I was not able to see the stringers around the rods sticking out of the mold in the photo. "Viva la complicated." It is beautiful.

Re: Creating Deep Slump Reactive vessel
Les, Very interesting and unique. Curious as to why you sliced up the tubular casting with rods if you are going to pull it into cane in the hot shop? Wouldn't one piece be easier? Also curious where the color surrounding the rods came from. I can understand the rod color and the color from the powd...

Re: Creating Deep Slump Reactive vessel
Leslie, The two slumped bowls are gorgeous, especially the deep inverted bell shape. Were you able to slump it in one step or did it take a series of ever deeper molds? Is it, or they commercially available molds or did you make them yourself? How wide and deep is the bell shaped mold? Thank you for...

Yes, you should be able to see a glow. If you can't see the glow, CAREFULY slowly put your hand near (one to two inches) where each element is located to determine if it is heating. Low top temperature would be consistent with one out of two elements not working.

Re: Advice on buying a new 120V kiln :(
Jodi,
Check and see if you have one or two elements. If two, see if one isn't working. Just lift the lid, start kiln and watch to see that all elements turn bright red after a bit.

Re: New Fiber Kiln Prefiring
Deborah,
Suggest you hold at 900 for an hour (for 2 layers)
Then 100/hr to 750, then off
This will give you better annealing.
Surprised you are getting fiber sticking on the back only going to 1425.

Devit on the bottom is strange. What kind of shelf and kiln wash and glass are you using? Make sure the shelf is in the kiln when you do what Rosanna suggested.

Drew,
I would go 350 d/hr to 1000, then 500 to 1400 (or 1450 if you want a full fuse.)
afap to 900 (Bullseye recommended annealing temp.)
Hold for 1.75 hrs (especially for 5 layers.)
Go 100 d/hr to 750, then off

Re: Controller advice
Check that your thermocouple is ok and properly inserted. If it doesn't "feel" the heat it will tell the controller to keep heating.

Re: How to make SURE my electric works before buying kiln?
Sinnae,
Most glass kiln controllers limit the temp. to 1700 F max. Why would you want to go to 2300? I believe different thermocouples and element metals are required for the higher temps.

Hi Les,
Beautiful! Is the metal bar on top of the glass to hold it to the base, or is it through the glass creating sections? Thanks.

Hi Havi,
I'm sure you can get pumice in Israel. It is a very common abraisive. Also used in hand soaps to get grime off.

Haydo,
The two bottom photos are gorgeous. I have never seen this kind of work before. I searched "bubble block" but found nothing. If you don't mind sharing, I would love to know the technique involved. Thanks.

Re: Broke it during blasting
I'd give it a shot with the bottom glass added. That it is opalescent glass may be the saving grace. Surely, transp. glass would show. I'd go to 1550 to get a good flow. Anneal at much slower rate than you used the first time.
