On one of the stained glass newsgroups somewhere (there are what? several 100 of them?) I saw someone recommend some paint pens called "Zig Painty Pens." They're pricey, so I haven't purchased one yet and tried it out. But they're all the rave with the mark, cut and grind crowd. I had a me...

Re: COE for Most Armstrong and Youghiogeny Glass Question

I once tried slumping a sheet of Youghiogeny and it came apart. The colors weren't even stuck together. That's too bad. I have some scrap Youghiogheny that is stunning (well, of course.) It'd make a great single layer...something. I kind of wondered if it'd turn to mud or worse. Now here's a dumb q...

Leveling a kiln on casters

I've been reading the kiln installation threads in anticipation of my own kiln. I'm not certain which model I'll get, but it will likely be in the 18" to 24" range. It'll be in my garage and I plan to put it on casters so that I can roll it in a storage area when it's not in use...which I'...

Oh, the good old days of screw cap baby food jars. I only have one left. Today's jars use a rubbery friction cap which is not as good as the old ones, IMO. I remember my excitement oh...about 7 years ago when I started buying baby food for my oldest. "Jars!" thought I, "Wonderful sto...

I imagine you can do cutting, glueing, grinding and sawing all you want using normal precautions such as a dust mask. If you job out your firing - you'll be fine. If your kiln is in another building, you'll be fine. If you live with your kiln...eh...I don't know about that. Perhaps others have bette...

It's probably spooky firewall stuff. And yes, sometimes we IT folks just scratch our heads and try not to think too hard about it.

I've read this thread and the similar one over on CraftWeb and I have some opinions about getting good help, but not from a studio owner's perspective. So it may be different. My husband has experience getting and keeping good help in the $10 an hour range. He's real estate investor who buys very tr...

Put glass inside multiple plastic bags. Place a scrap of plywood on a concrete surface. Put bag of glass on top of plywood. Smash glass in bag with sledge hammer. Cheaper still and no metal at all. Kevin Hmm...this gave me an idea. The biggest concrete surface I have is my driveway. Can I replace t...

Precut BE numbers?

I'm posting this for a fusing friend of mine who only has a Hotmail email address. I'm not really sure of such an animal exists, but she's looking for a source for pre-cut numbers in Bullseye. One of our local suppliers had stars (I have a sneaky feeling they sent out for those to be waterjet cut) b...
