Re: Protecting irridized surfaces

In my experience spruce pine is not a good kiln working glass, it easily devitrifies and becomes cloudy. I think it might be the glass its on that's causing your irridized surface to loose its shine. Have you tried fusing any without the irridized coating to see how the glass reacts on its own.

Re: glass bottle frit

Yes you can and most bottle colors are compatible not only with other bottles but with float glass (Do some testing). It's a good cheap way to learn your craft, the art will come later.

Re: Fire n flip adhesive

Thanks Cynthia, It was after reading this blog post looking for something else that I posted the question here. I guess I didn't read the date to see how new it was. I'm excited to try the tape, but am wondering if there is much fuming or smoke from a good sized plate with a good amount of small pie...

Fire n flip adhesive

I'm wondering if anyone could suggest an adhesive for gluing a cut pattern to a base piece for firing n flipping. It's all iridized opaque black so clarity is not my main concern. I'm thinking about super glue or hot glue but would like to hear about other ideas.

Thanks Much
William

Re: Plate broke during slumping

It's hard to tell from the picture but you might want to raise your kiln shelf up a few inches. It looks as though your plate mold is at the same height as your element, which can cause the edge of the glass to heat up faster than the center. This will help with air flow inside the kiln and a more e...

Re: Do touching pieces fuse together or might there be a gap

Kelemvor if I set the design on top of something else and fuse it, I'm assuming it will have somewhat wavy lines when it's done. Not sure what you mean by wavy lines. The edges of the design will be defused and the corners at the tops of the U will be rounded if you do not fill in the spaces. You c...

You might want to try your local stain glass shop they might be able to cut it out in one piece for you.

Re: Cats and Dogs

Mike, getting your screens exposed for you might be a good idea, having the right equipment makes a big difference in getting good detail. You might want to also check out your local community college. I've been taking night classes to get access to equipment that I could not afford or have room for...

Re: Cats and Dogs

Mike, A lot of getting a good image on the screen is tuning your exposure time. If your image detail is washing away you're probably not exposing long enough or have a bad printer giving you light transparencies. I'm also using Reusche high temp. black (3000) but am switching over to the lead free R...

Cats and Dogs

This is my first picture post so I hope I get it right. These are screen printed images from photographs both are 12in x12in.
Any comments or helpful suggestions with technique would be grateful.
