Susan W The book 'Painting China and Porcelain' by Sheila Southwell is a really good reference. Has several pages on mediums alone. Much more reference info and pure technique than the...

I have had success airbrushing with Ferro 80 683 (Glycol ether, denatured alcohol & cellulose ether) thinned with alcohol and with gum arabic in water. Both go on even, dry hard and fire glossy. Are the 683 ingredients the same as Klyrfire?...............Jim I use Klyr Fire for spraying but hav...

Thanks. Yes, the center pieces are done with Reusche and Rhynnes enamels on glass.

Enameled piece

I just today got to see a piece in the daylight that I've had on the table since december. Yay!

Now I have to clean it. And install it. Boo.

Yes, Gil, please solve this. The Hoaf is too pricey. I'll buy your prototype electric painters kiln.

not sure why you're putting the 120v constraint on yourself though.

I'm not sure. I've never sprayed kilnwash with my aztek. I was always afraid of the powder caking up the nozzle (since the aztek is an intenal mix airbrush). So I use an external mix Badger airbrush for kilnwash. Tony I've clogged an Aztek nozzle and taken it apart to clean it and got away with it....

Re: enamels

Just got through painting some small square float pieces with enamels(have never used them before) Mixed them with a a drop of medium and water to consistency. It looks grainy to me. Is this the way it's supposed to look? I wouldn't think It would give good coverage. I bought these in sample pkgs. ...

Re: Distance from top elements to glass?

Sounds counter intuitive, especially given that Unifrax makes 10" thick Durablanket modules. Why would they do that if there was a problem with more than 6" of insulation? I agree. I asked for an explanation, got back an analogy or two, but never attained an understanding. The theory was ...

Re: Distance from top elements to glass?

Allow 4 to 6". You can be as close as 2", but it's not really recommended. I'd fill up the empty space on the bottom with fiber blanket, not brick. Brick costs more money to heat up and fiber's a better insulator. A thread a few weeks ago on craft web gave me the impression that there's a...
Joe Ditto I'd love to learn a trick relative to keeping paint cleaner.
I made all my palettes (pallets?) for each color about 11" square., so they'd fit inside large ziplock bags. That keeps the dust out of them and I can stack them. I also keep my badger blender upright, in a ...

Re: gas kilns again

Has anyone used a Hoaf kiln? The Hoafs that I've seen used (Dick Millard's, Paul San Casciani's) were more suited for glass painting and other surface decoration than fusing. I'm not certain if they are even intended to go as hot as fusing temps. But they can cook glass paint and cool to handling t...

Two things that I appreciate in a teacher/course: Teaching to all levels as much as possible. Not dumbing-down content nor forgeting the less skilled. Keeping the action going. Not having people stand in line or having a whole class watch while one person executes a skill. A little of that is probab...
