Great lesson on how to make a work of art from the silver and French vanilla reaction.

Will you share recipes - what did you use to patina/etch?? the brass?

Thanks, Gale

Okay - this is a rant and a vent! Sometimes, I get so frustrated with this business we're in! Last night my husband & I made a quick stop at our local discounter to buy a few basic necessities: TP, paper towels, cat litter and deo. Of course the pricing structure at this store is so-o-o low beca...

So far, I've used the HF21 fiber blanket. This fiber blanket has been just fine for my applications: kiln carving, build-up mold making & glass edge treatments. http://www.uu77.com/thermalinsulation/ I'm just getting ready to order ceramic paper and 2" fiber board. I'll post my application ...

Rodney...........you're looking for Irene Frolich.

She's one of my idols in the glass world - hangs right up there with the work of Bertil Valien.

Gold/Silver marker Question

Tony or should I say Tony(s), are the gold and silver markers formulated with real precious metals? Will they stay intact like the Hanovia gold or wil they stain like our good old friend silver? If I applied one of these metal colored markers to my glass project and laid the glass -decorated side do...

Zentrum Glass is right in my back yard here in MO. I had the opportunity to go over to Doug's studio (which was worth the trip - he's self built 98% of the equipment he has in that studio) and hand pick my sheets and stringers of uranium glass. I've run several tests with this glass over the last 5 ...

Paul....my original question did ask about the possibilities of dripping onto frit. Based on the replies to this question, it seems this won't work for me. The mold is fully 3d & enclosed, rather than open faced. I need to retain my color placements in several areas located along one long length...

Excellent info.....thanks! Getting exact color placement into this mold shape is proving to be a bit of a holy grail. Looks like I'll have to make a two part mold and lay up the colors in a pate`method, leaving sprues along one edge to finish the filling process. Even with this approach, the colors ...

Ask if the gift shop people if they allow artist contact info on the tags before printing them up. Not many resale venues are ok with this........ Placing Frit + Drip Casting into Same Mold?

I have a long, fairly narrow mold where I would like to place a color frit into the deepest areas and then drip cast a differing color in for a more translucent appearance in the body of the casting.

Has anyone done this and what are the visual results?

Thanks

Carve the fiber board before firing. (Wear a mask and keep your vacumn handy, w/ hepa-filter if possible, to suck up the loose particles generated by your carving.) Once the board is fired it's harder to create smooth carved surfaces or crisp cut edges. With each successive firing the board becomes ...
