Hanging a fused glass panel

I made a glass panel for a friend and she plans to hang it in a window-opening in between her dining room and kitchen. The glass is small enough that there is a 1 3/4" margin around the opening. My question is the method of hanging. I have been looking at clamps, two top and two bottom but ther...

Re: Thinfire residue

No, Bullseye clear. After a bit of research, I think I know what I did. I held it too long at the top full fuse temp. It's a big piece and I was worried it wouldn't fill in the gaps for the carving technique. I do have some areas in the big piece that has a film. Am looking into sandblasting service...

Re: Thinfire residue

I've used it for years and just bought the large roll of Bullseye thinfire! I really only had an issue one time with opal powder blue but this is Bullseye clear. This is frustrating to say the least. Does anyone have a way, other than sandblasting, to get it off? I have a large piece that I fired wi...

Thinfire residue

I'm having an issue with bullseye thin fire leaving a residue on the underside of my glass. The picture shows the whitish haze on the part that is against the thinfire. No haze where 1/16" fiber paper is used. Any suggestions? http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b551/Alice_Benvie_Gebhart/image_...

Re: Pricing for interior designers and design firms

Thanks guys. This gives me a great perspective. I would like to work with professionals in the field, if possible, but don't want to give it away either. I was given a 40% discount by well-known lighting craftspeople being that I was an artist and they were artists and was overjoyed by that. Didn't ...

Pricing for interior designers and design firms

Well, I have been contacted by some different design firms who have seen different pieces online asking for a "designers discount" if they purchase a piece for a client. Not sure how to approach this. Is a wholesale rate of 50% off retail common in these cases? What are your practices? I w...

Re: New Kiln Tests and Trials

Thanks Bert. I saw that on Warm tips and thought that as an option for the lid. I do have a cathedral-type ceiling and can find the beams easily.

New Kiln Tests and Trials

I just bought a new GF8CS kiln. It took awhile to get it and get it up and running and have a few questions for the exports. Firstly, I am looking into getting a hoist to help with lifting the lid. I reviewed the warm tips for a pulley system and that was helpful. I also looked into using a pulley a...

Re: tile saw issue

Using Husqvarna SuperLock Glass Plus diamond blade.
The saw goes along fine, cut is great then all of a sudden it seems to jump and blade seems to skid across top and spark.

tile saw issue

I have a DeWalt D24000 which has a 10" blade but the problem I am having I had with a saw I had at the beginning of my glass career. I'd just like to know what is going on. I am cutting and it is just fine but then it seems to pull the glass quickly through the cut and not cut all the way throu...

New Kiln suggestions

Hi friends, I wish to purchase a new and larger kiln. I have been looking at the Denver kiln KL-50 which is 30 x 60 x 12 interior and the Olympic GF-10 which is 30 x 48 x 12 interior. Both are about the same price. I am looking for a new kiln so I can work larger and use it for classes but my primar...

Quiet Sunset

I haven't posted in awhile as webshots has changed and my photos just wouldn't upload. I moved to photobucket and think this will work. My newest piece is called Quiet Sunset and I did it as a commission. My client wanted trees, bright colors with purples, oranges and reds. I am pleased with the res...

Re: Which glue is best for glass to glass on sushi plates?

Throw the old silicone away. The silicone works great s long as it is not old. The only times it didn't work for me was because it hadn't set and that was because it was beyond its expiration date. So be careful of the old stuff.
