When someone takes the time to send me a note of admiration for my work, I always respond. There have been several times when I have been interested in an artist's work to the point of considering buying a piece and sent a note expressing my admiration. If they can't be bothered to reply with a simp...

It was frit size 1 BE lt. bronze glass (don't have the # in my head). I should have cut it with clear (50/50), which I forgot to do and I should have used less. Only wanted the cup itself to be brown (it has branch forms on the outside like a bird's nest) and the foot to be clear. Well, not clear si...

It's a cast piece (one of my cup forms) that I mis-judged on the amount of bronze color and the whole thing came out very brown. Too brown. What I want to do is use paints to give it more color without deforming the cast piece, and I would like the paints to be permanent so I figured they would have...

Can anyone recommend a type of glass paint that fires at less than the softening point for Bullseye?

The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary: men alone are quite capable of every wickedness - Joseph Conrad My position exactly. I don't believe in Satan or any personification of 'evil'. Who needs Satan when we humans got it down. I think a lot of stuff we call evil is just stuff...

Whoa, look what came back. Hey Brock- Back from my vacation. Unfortunately I haven't had the good fortune to do the Grand, at least not yet. But I am an avid boater and wilderness canoe camper. Several memorable trips have been 8 days doing the Lower Canyons of the Rio Grande (when that wonderful r...

Only five days in the Grand? And how on earth could you get bored! Obviously never rafted down the Grand! Must not have enough testosterone! Or maybe that's estrogen since the ladies are the takers.

I've been on vacation and out of town... I do what I do (as far as motif and subject matter) because it makes me feel good to do it. I didn't choose glass...it chose me. I explored painting, drawing, ceramics, weaving, textile design, sculpture (stone). Though I enjoyed all, none grabbed me the way ...

I can't help you out on the use of zircar as a kiln shelf, but I know that it also comes in a powder form that can be made into a mold material that is brushed on the model (wax) and then the wax is melted out. It is used for hot glass casting and the folks that use it, swear by it. The mold it make...

Yes. That is what the abrasive is, silicon carbide. Craytex is the brand name I purchase and they come in different grits...coarse to extra fine...and shapes but I have found the bullets to most useful. Prowl around your local jewelers supply, you might find all manner of useful things.

Thanks all.

Barbara...they are grit impregnated rubber polishing bullets that screw onto small mandrels for use with an off-hand rotary grinder or dremel tool. I get them at the jeweler's supply.

I do the same for my architectural work. I price it by what I need and think it's worth and then the designer or art consultant adds whatever percentage is usual for them. Somewhere in the 10 - 20% range. My query was mainly for the pate de verre work. I had an inquiry from an art consultant via e-m...

gallery vs art rep/consultant

For those of you who have both types of representation, do you sell your work at the same wholesale price to both? For galleries, whether bought or consigned, wholesale is usually 50%. Art reps work a little differently. Should they get the same discount or would something like 15 - 20% be more usua...

Mineral spirits is just paint thinner. Don't think it will work. Have you tried the acetone, naptha, or MEK or even a razor blade after soaking it with plain glass cleaner? Sounds to me like whatever you mean by 'armouring' is probably reacting with the adhesive on the paper. Try removing the stenci...
