Re: sharing my choices of protective clothing for combing
Hi Marty We are planning to use pyrolite compound (a mixture of silica and ceramic fibers and ethynel glycol) used for fixing refractories, to hold the coils up in the channel. Also pins as additional safety measure, embeded in the brick with a coating of the pyrolite, this will hopefully keep them...

Re: Raking
Hi, I have a Janus Ovation Kiln from Paragon. It is a large oval kiln. I have been wondering how to do combing in such a large kiln with coils in the lid of the kiln. From what I've read here, I'd need a pulley system for the lid and all of the protective gear (and face shield). The pieces to be com...

Re: bottle glass firing schedule
Hey Everybody! Thanks so much for all of your input. The video gave me some more ideas and if I figure this out and it is productive time-wise, I will post back here.
Thanks Again,
Ginny

Re: vermiculite boards
Vermiculite will stick to glass, so separators are required (as for ceramic shelves). I'm not sure why it is indicated that only fibre paper separators will work at fusing temperatures. I used a prefired and kiln - washed, 2 inch vermiculite board to fully fuse a 14 inch by 15 inch glass panel. I d...

Re: bottle glass firing schedule
OK. So, here's the deal. I got a set of 6 glasses made from old wine bottles from my sister-in-law for Christmas. (No, she doesn't know who made them.) In looking at the edges, it looks like they were fired and began to sag (only) on the lip. The reason I think they were NOT cold-work polished is be...

Re: bottle glass firing schedule
Brad,
Do you think I could just use a torch? Picture the bottom of the wind bottle cut from the narrowing neck.... Can I use a torch to just slight melt/take of sharp edges on the piece?
Thanks,
Ginny

bottle glass firing schedule
Hi. I want to fire some wine bottle glass just enough to remove sharp edges, NOT to fully fuse it. What might my target temperature be? Do you have a sample firing schedule?
Thanks,
Ginny
