Re: Giant Slumping Bubble

Hi there I The mold looks a bit 'enclosed' ie two air holes in the centre but the edge of the plate has a rim of about one inch which sits on the kiln shelf and I wondered if perhaps the air couldn't escape. Best regards Linda I also would reccomend that you lift the mold up with stilts to get it o...

When i want loops on anything, I use the high fire wire and make a loop and anchor it between two pieces of glass. I use the PVA glue called PVA I've discussed previously. Even between translucents sheets, it burns completely away and does not leave any imprint. Anyway, I anchor the loop on the bot...

Another thing that may be causing the problem is the blade may be worn more on one side than the other. This might be caused by a skewed table too, or just an old blade. Ron Thanks Ron. The problem as I see it is that the start and the end of the cut are exactly on the straight line that I draw on ...

Re: Tile saw not cutting a straight line

I have a Chicago electric (harbor freight) tile saw that I have been using for some time now to cut small pieces of pattern bars. I just made a long (14 ") cut of a kiln shelf and found that the cut is bowed. looks like the rim of a very large circle. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix t...

Paul: Another technique you might want to consider is casting bllets in a box mold, creating a reverse felief. You would make a positive relief element in plaster and cast over it in a box. The method was taught and demonstratd by Ted Sawyer from Bullseye, and they now have a new TipSheet (#5) on t...

I've done alot of bottles in my old kiln but now that I have a larger one I wanted to try a BIG bottle. The rule I was taught is you need two layers (3mm) for the first 2 inches of drop, then one additional layer for each additional 2 inches of drop. So for a 15 inch drop you would need nine layers of 3mm glass to ensure adequate wall thickness. Have fun. Paul That's right, Paul. Also, I would try a ...
