Re: UL certification

Hi, Has anyone made wall sconces? Or lamps? If so, have you submitted the products for UL certification? Elaine Elaine I once looked in to it and they told me it would cost $2000 for the first year and $1000 a year from then on. There are less expensive laboratories, but I have avoided the issues u...

I very recently (two weeks ago) purchased the smaller Covington from cyberrockhound.com for a little over $600. Best price I could find. It has the motor and is mounted and ready to go. I was trying to stretch my money further instead of investing in the larger Covington from CR Lawrence, which I c...

I actually found this thread while searching with very little luck for propane kiln info. Unlike alaskasusan, I do not have the option of purchasing electricity at any price, the nearest line is 6 miles away. I am a former fine arts major and have been researching a few different mediums. Warm glas...

Inotherwords, should I really be messing with my pyrometer & all it's electronics or just know that at 1350° I get a really full fuse in my big kiln? I think this is on the right track. So long as you know how your kiln behaves at whatever temperature it says on your pyrometer, then it doesn't...

Three things to do: Get a good glass that doesn't scum up. Clean the glass well. Don't fire as hot. I never use overglaze. Kevin Kevin I don't use borax on glass 3/8" and thicker. I am led to understand that the thinner glasses aree more prone to devit because of the ease of certain molecules ...

Re: Oversprays on 3mm Clear Float: Spray A vs. Borax

When I use spray A on 3 mm clear float glass, it leaves a very slight haze in the top layer with a mottling effect from the spray pattern. I've tried applying different ways (airbrush, mouth sprayer, etc) and tried different drying periods, and also tin side down. I only see the haze when looking t...

This right Bert ???
I am not at home this week so I don't have my data handy. Brian, you are really the expert about annealing thick chunks. I'm good with big slabs up to 1.5" thick.

Re: enamels

Just got through painting some small square float pieces with enamels(have never used them before) Mixed them with a a drop of medium and water to consistency. It looks grainy to me. Is this the way it's supposed to look? I wouldn't think It would give good coverage. I bought these in sample pkgs. ...

Re: Uranium Glass Tests

Here are images of the uranium glass samples that I tested. You're looking at pieces of uncut sheet and a small piece of three layers of fused sheet. I fired the 3 layers twice. The first firing was to a fire polish with no color change. the glass retained it's bright yellow-green color. The second...

We are having problems with 1/2" float glass pieces used as all glass lav; after the process of sagging and cooling we verify straight lines (like grooves, stretched) only on the surface of the sink . They are a little difficult to see, but easy to touch. Could anyone help me here? Fabio In or...

Okay I got the pieces out of the kiln this morning and they luckily did not crack violently. They were so small only 1 and 1/2 inches square, so I am guessing that is why I didn't have any cracking problems.
