Gauge required for metal backing.
What gauge of stainless steel is required to support a glass panel attached with standoffs. I expect I will be using a cleat for wall attachment. I realize the answer will vary depending on dimensions and aspect ratio. The glass panel in question is 5" X 10" 6 mm. I just need a guideline a...

Re: Frit casting mold
Thank you for your your thoughts. The bowl I made is a fused free form weave using coe 90. I planned to glue the butterfly/dragonfly to it. After checking out the molds I think they would not be delicate enough to achieve the look I want. I'm going to examine a few other options. I've located some t...

Frit casting mold
I want to frit cast a butterfly and/or a dragonfly. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good mold with plenty of detail? I want the piece to be in the 3" to 5" size range and plan to drape/shape it and place it on the rim of a bowl I've made. I'd thought about buying a lampworked piece fro...

Re: Kiln Pieces in Glass
I had a similar problem and found that the spot where the element end was pinned to the rim of the lid was pulling loose. When I ordered the kiln (Skutt Clamshell) I asked for a window to be included and I believe that weakened the brick right where the element pin goes in. Now I'm careful to check ...

The glass piece is magical. Beautiful colors and enough variation in color and texture to make it feel similar to the relaxation of looking at a well appointed fish tank. How is the lighting done?

Where can I get these?
I've been looking for some kind of "holder" to use as fasteners of glass to base. These look perfect for the job. Anyone know where to find them?

Re: Two oldies resurected.
Very interesting work. The strips look like satin and invite touching. Were the bubbles controlled? They add a bit of artistic tension to the regimented flow of the stripes. As for the painting, I'm surprised you didn't get bubbles when capped. I saw a demonstration where dry enamel was rubbed into ...

Re: Frosted Finish Glass Paint / Enamel
I meant for the link to go to the page that features a product called "Silk Glass Paints". It is not an etching product. I did some tests with it an the result is a very soft translucent effect.

Tasteful and serene. Also encourages contemplation by combining a photo with a way to study the construction of the cube. Are the photos fired on? Very creative use of your bubble blocks. So many paths to pursue.

Is the blank you used 2 layers of glass or just one? Sometimes a single layer will not slump completely.

My goodness Bert! The process was quite daunting and would certainly give most of us pause when considering it. I recall another bar top you posted (had greenish color?) and wonder if this one is much larger. The pattern reminds me of Hubble telescope photos. Wow!

Still trying to discern the difference between layups. It kind of looks like Jill's blue sheet glass overlaps the chips laid in the rim area. Also can't tell if blue glass is a double layer as directed.

Re: photo copying on to glass
Hi Andrea, I have used the decal paper and had very nice results. While the resulting image is in a sepia tone, the effect is greatly affected by the color of the background glass. My favorite is French Vanilla. I like to fire the glass first to get a smooth finish on the surface where the decal wil...
