Ron

Is your firing schedule as long as I'm reading it.

100 dph from 1200 to 1500 and then a 20 min soak. That figures out to 3 hours and 20 min to go from 1200 to 1500 and then start to cool.

A new tile saw design that is in the mid price range is something like this; http://www.mkdiamond.com/tile/pages/170/170_1.html# The motor on these units is still the "universal" design and will be noisy, but it should be a little more druable than the low end nuits. These units are not v...

Won't get here till Monday afternoon. What you want to do with the saw and how much use you plan on putting it too should help you decide which one to buy. The entry l...

Hey all, I just talked to a man with 50 years experience sandblasting monuments. He says the small 15 lb pressure pots are good and you can do a lot of work with them but the critical factor is having a compressor that delivers a minimum 35 cfm continuously. So it's the volume of air that is import...

how did you attach the brass insert again?

Liam
I just glue them in with E6000 or silicon.

Re: Your Wonderful work

I am a newbie to glass, but your work is wonderful! Can you explain how you made this with the copper? I also from Florida and would like to know if you ever come to south Florida area to teach? LindaPos The process of fusing with copper has been explained several times on the board, but the basic ...

Ron, I love your work! It is some of the best use of copper I've seen. Love the black border around the copper! Keep it up, Jolly Thanks Jolly. Someone mentioned copper and black glass a few weeks ago, was it Brock? Anyway I thought I'd give it a try. It works for sure. Now I have a story to tell y...

Jim It will most likely turn silver at 1350. I've seen it turn as low as 1175 during a slump. What I would try is something like bending glaze or "back magic". Cut your glass and finish any edges and then apply the glaze and tack fuse. If you can find the Ferro Frit #3419, it melts startin...

You should be able to use it indoors, but it is too porous for outside use. It will soak up water easily and if frozen may crack. It may in Arizona though.

Depends on what type of mold you need. Plaster and silica are only good for one trip in the kiln and then they fall apart. They do make good molds but are used mainly for casting glass. For a reusable mold try something like raku clay from a pottery supply store. You can form the clay, dry it, and t...

Re: glass extruder?

I saw a fused piece in Petra Kaiser's book (the clock) that had the look of glass drizzled across the surface. It was achieved by a glass extruder. What is that and what was used to achieved that effect? Thanks Carol For the ultimate in drizzled glass see the attached link to the "vitrigraph k...

I've done a number of bowls from float and haven't done anything special other that adjusting the anneal temperature to 1050 f. Float glass seems to stand up to a lot of abuse on heat up. I use about 1500-1525 for full fuse in my kiln. The only problem you might have is devit and a little borax will...

When I bisque fire I set the kiln to heat over a period of about 5 hours to bisque temp ~1700 f and then shut the kiln off. Just let your clay dry to bone dry before firing. Drill some air vent holes before firing too. Here is a link to a cone chart that gives a list of cone firing temperatures and ...
