Re: Denver Kiln?

So you've been given a free kiln with a retail price of about $3000, and it holds a 24" shelf. You don't mention the size of the Denver...[edit: I can't believe I missed the Denver model number in your post! Still, while the size is wonderful, I'd probably stick with my original decision] Thing...

I can't offer any suggestions as to what's gone wrong but I can tell you that in order to receive help, you need to post your entire firing schedule.

No. No you may not. You may not bring any bottles into your glass studio and pretend to make them into art.

Oops. Did I just say that out loud? Sorry; not a fan of melted bottles.
Do something spectacular and prove me wrong. : )

I think Cynthia's right; on the top photo you can even see glass stuck to your dams.

Re: Cleaning your Molds

I've heard the always recoat your molds bit, figured it was invented by somebody selling kiln wash. I took part in a class once where one of the students said Bullseye kiln wash needed to be mixed at a 1/3 ratio. When we questioned her about what a thick mixture that would be, she told us that it h...

Re: Which molds?

A large compass is cheap and easier to store, for me. Although most times, I cut a base circle to the size I want, and then trace it to draw the pattern for my piece.

Re: Good, not thick, adhesive for break repair?

I don't think I'd use Superglue, unless this is a piece you're keeping. I used it years ago, the first time I glued on bails. Seemed perfect, until I unpacked all my pendants at a show and discovered all the bails had fallen off. Of course, glass to glass may be fine, but wanted to let you know!

Koi

Fresh out of the kiln (which is why it's a quick iPhone pic from the kitchen counter) but using up some stands I've had for awhile. The photo doesn't show it but I combed a layer of clear powder between the base layers, which resulted in some nice bubble patterns. Measures 8x25".

Re: Which molds?

I find I use the same few molds over and over, so you probably don't need a lot. Bullseye recently sent out a quick tip called Multitasking Molds. You can see it here (sorry for the long link!): http://view.email.bullseyeglass.com/?j=fe5715747c6601747c15&m=fef211797c6105&ls=fde915747c6c037e7...

8" Glass disks. =: about 1000 1/4 inch rods stacked up and fused into a "glass disks". (what is the proper lingo?) This is the technique that Els Vanden Ende was working on at Pilchuck in 2010; she did some really beautiful work that's now traveling in Bullseye's Act 2 The Glass Trac...

Re: Wearing gloves when cutting glass

My handyman used to be a butcher in a grocery chain. He gave me some woven, fabric-type gloves that are cut resistant to knifes. They're soft and flexible enough for some pretty good dexterity as far as handling/sorting glass.

Re: Any idea how this is done

Love these. Cut out design on top piece. Put a transparent color for bottom layer. Cut out fiber paper where you want the glass to puff out. Place under both layers and fuse. I am attaching puffy glass directions that worked very well for me. Have fun http://www.glass-fusing-made-easy.com/puffy-gla...

Re: Replace broken piece?

When I expressed surprise that the piece had broken, I asked the assistant what happened. She said, "I'm not really sure." When I asked if it was dropped, the reply was, "I don't know; she told me it never made it out of the car and she wants to know what you'll do about it." I w...

I extended the offer to remake the piece at my standard fee, plus shipping. Today I received a response: "Hi Valerie, I spoke with Ms. XXX and she is unwilling to pay the original amount of money for the replacement of the piece. Thank you for your consideration. Also, she does agree that the p...
