Re: Keeping the drains clear
This is about as simple as it gets... I think Cynthia Morgan posted about it ages ago. http://www.artmolds.com/product_details.cfm?product_id=379&page=0&cat_name=Gleco%20Plaster%20Trap You can also do a Google search "artist sink trap"and a bunch of DIY stuff comes up for pottery s...

Re: Somaca price
NJ.
Paid $250 for mine. Cleaned it and painted it.
I know of one (at least as of a few weeks ago) that the guy is asking $275 for.
Needs a good cleaning and I didn't see it run, but he swears it runs perfectly.
Problem is shipping would be a killer.

Re: Recycled or eco friendly packaging materials
The machine to do it has been on my "buy" list for a long time. The company that makes the "proper' shredders to do this type of shredding is called HSM. But that machines start at about 2000 on Ebay. To buy shredded cardboard, paper etc is surprisingly expensive. But I just had an id...

Re: square up on straight talk
As for what Barry mentioned last, worst case (depending on your phone) you could turn your phone into a hotspot using free software and then connect to your computer using WiFi. My wife does it occasionally if some idiot forgets to pay the Verizon bill at the house. She uses a cheap model Android an...

Re: square up on straight talk
Hi Bert- Not 100% sure, but they will sell you a new card for the phone which is supposed to make it compatible. The card is only about $15 and the shipping is free. The only thing about it is that you have to use the $45 unlimited plan. The $30 plan won't work with any of the smart phones. I have a...

Plus one of the best things about Straightalk is that is actually uses Verizon's system, so in turn you are getting Verizon coverage at a great discount.

I would bet what Tracy is referencing is what you are thinking about.
The more technical name is Silver Sulfadiazine. You may not have it by the other name in Israel.

Re: Kiln Wash on Walls
Cheap Insurance... If you have the room, "strategically" place kiln furniture (or pieces of brick, pieces of tile, whatever) stuff along the edges of your shelf. Obviously keep them out of the way of the slumping bottles, but if anything rolls, that will stop them from going overboard. (Wh...

Re: Durock-vitrigraph kiln
Granted the Durock is sitting on what would for all intents be called a flange or lip (about 1.5" all the way around, but I place the pot on strips of tile, which distributes the weight a bit. As for schmutz getting on the work., Hasn't happened yet. And as I said the cracks started long ago. P...

Re: Durock-vitrigraph kiln
Actually, yes you can. The photo shows the piece we use. It has been through about 12 sessions. It cracked from the beginning, but hadn't collapsed (broken apart) at all until I dropped it this morning to take the picture. The hole was cut with a woodworking hole saw, and we bought small pieces of c...

Re: Sand Mold Basics
HI Bert- That is very interesting about the soot burning away. I've never actually tried it but many of my friends have. We always used the molasses deal. I always assumed the Bentonite was to hold the grains of sand together and in turn get better definition if you are just pushing and pulling some...

Re: Sand Mold Basics
For what it is worth. I have used regular foundry sand mixed with about 4-5% Bentonite and it worked fine. It held fairly good detail, and the sand didn't stick to the glass (frit.) Most glassblowers who do any kiln casting use a dirty Acetylene soot as a release agent. We've also used a solution of...

Re: Car wax and glass rags
I scour thrift stores and garage sales every chance I get.
They are getting pretty hard to come by at this point.
The really weird part is that a fair amount of the ones I have here are from when me and my siblings were little kids (we're in our 50's).

Re: Car wax and glass rags
Real (old fashioned) baby Diapers are far and away the best. The ones that Gerber sells through Walmart etc work fine, but the really old ones (like when I was a baby) are the best. If you look at what the guys who sell glass blanks to the award industry sell, you will see that they are Gerber baby ...

You roll out a ring of putty (like a snake), make into a circle. Press it onto the piece and use it as a reservoir to hold the water.

Hi Bob- I am hesitant to say anything because I could be completely wrong, but I think that sheet is opaque. I see it listed as transparent on Spectrum's overall product list, but on the system 96 list, it shows as an opal. (Not to mention that is all I have ever been able to get my hands on here.) ...

Hi Cara- I am quite biased, but here is some work done with Mica (on the left) and black enamel (on the right.) It is done with a combination of Barry Kaiser's materials, and my sandblasting/etching. You can't beat the detail, and you colors aren't much of an issue. I see you are in Eastern PA, I am...
