Re: Indiegogo?

why not just ask the parents to donate some money for each child who participates? it would not be mandatory but I am sure the majority of parents would pay. it would not have to be a lot, maybe $10, or whatever. I was very involved in my kids' elementary school and the moms would have been glad to ...

Re: Help putting frit in mold

if it's a mold you are working upside down. depending on the look you want you could approach it different ways. when I make molded dragonflies I strategically place the dichro pieces where I want them and then fill up with non-dichro frit. if the dichro frit you're using is clear then I think mixin...

Re: big bubble at base of bowl

that's my problem - I forgot to pray to the kiln gods!!!! actually thank you for posting the schedule that worked. it seems very conservative and I plan to try something very similar after I get this bad boy fused flat again.

Re: big bubble at base of bowl

re-fuse flat first it is. thanks guys. yes, I am working on why I got the bubble. I think I might have ramped too fast even though it was only 300 dph.

big bubble at base of bowl

I have a gorgeous bowl with a big bubble in the center from slumping. do I have to fire it flat and re-slump or can I simply attempt to reslump putting it back into the mold as is? I've been told different things so wonder what the sages here think. thanks so much. ps the bowl is 12" diameter, ...

Re: firing a new mold

I've never pre-fired a mold BUT I just got a new one and the instructions say: "pre-firing is recommended for molds larger than 30cm. this process strengthens the inner structures and makes the mold less susceptible to thermal shock." the directions are to go like you say below, 50 degrees...

Re: Buying first kiln...will specific project fit?

your mold is 14.5 but the shelf is only 14? that sounds like it would be a super tight squeeze and not the best idea. but I don't truly know, just sounds like you're pushing it. I have the 19" clamshell with an 18" shelf and I love it.

dumb question but I've heard differing info... how many uses can you get out of a ceramic mold primed with Hotline Primo Primer? thanks!

I've only used it about 5x so far but it certainly seems to heat evenly.

Re: Advice on a kiln for fusing 17" bowl?

I got the Paragon-19S delivered for a little bit over $1500. It's a clamshell and can take an 18" square shelf. sounds like it's what you are looking for.

I will definitely try the lower temp and longer hold. if that doesn't work I will just reapply each time. thank you all for your help.

Re: haze left after stuck kiln wash is removed

still getting this problem. it doesn't happen on the first fire of fresh wash but it does on second firings. I didn't think I had to reapply each time. I am going to 1490 and holding for 16 minutes. I realize that's a lot but my kiln is small and if I don't hold for a long time I don't get a full fu...

Re: workshops in Los Angeles/Ventura County area

Pacific Art Glass is the place most often mentioned around here. they have huge kilns and lots of classes. in fact, their open house is coming p Oct. 5-6. I'll be there on the 6th.
