Well, it didn't die. That sneaky board tactic of threatening an vote on it's demise really, really worked. We not only defeated the motion, we elected a new board! Of 9 people!! And I'm one of them!!! So folks, now's the time to join the BCGAA and have a chance at those scholarships. I can frankly ...

Re: kaiser-lee shelf, love and problem
I have a jen Ken Oval 9 and the seam drove me nuts, aside from having an evil shelf. I cut a piece of board to fit the whole bottom and it's great to have. I have a down side though and maybe it is the way I am treating it, don't know. Even after I rigidized it, it has been very tender, to say the ...

I tried to check Catharine Newell's link from the artists' list and it gives me someone else's work. I didn't go through the entire list to see if someone else's name would give me Catharine's work... yikes! Just a small snafu, I guess... My work IS there (I checked!), in the Red Auction. Th...

Re: Artist's Statement
Judd[/quote] Looking at the images of Mr. Van Noppen's work, it appears that he has clearly thought through and defined his intent. Words are powerful. (I suspect that poets are not expected to describe in paint or music or dance the intent/content/meaning of their writings.) They can condition the ...

I'd also like to add that I believe a statement may be even more valuable to the artist than it is to the public. An artist statement is a distillation of the myriad intentions, approaches, techniques, thought processes and personal histories that occur during the making of our art. The statement f...

Re: Artist's Statement
At this late a date, I'm not sure who's interested in this thread, but now I have a question. Why should we bother with an artist's statement? Truly, who reads them? The consumer might like to know we have thought out our art, the gallery owner might like to have something in writing, and fellow ar...

You have identified your field of interest. Dig deeper to find your reason why. That all-important question... It's the springboard to everything. My best to you, Catharine Catharine, Can I ask why we have to dig deeper? Isn't realizing our attraction to certain textures, shapes, or colors sufficie...

So, then, what about artist statements?
This has been an incredibly personal discussion. Everyone who has posted here has generously shared a thoughtful, intelligent, passionate part of themselves. This has been an extraordinary gift. Thank you. So, my next question logically involves artists statements. Do you have one? Does it get to th...
