Do you have photos of this? Is this really ugly, or could you use this as a design element? Is it possible to make it happen regularly?

Thank you all for your advice, I am going to contact the student again and try to resolve my concerns. I do sign my work, also with an asian style mark (really it's a symbol that incorporates my initials) and I know that my customers would know the copied designs from my things by this, just not at ...

are you fusing the silver as a decoration to be completely encased in glass, or as a hanger or something that will stick out of the glass somewhere?

Yes, I used a torch- oxy/acetelene with a very fine tip. You can get special fusion welders for around $500 that will do precision jewelry joints, like jumprings in a matter of seconds. I've never used one of them, but for those who do lots of jumprings it would be a great thing.

I guess I never thought of a stained glass approach, I've never done regular stained glass! I have used solder-filled sterling jump rings for jewelry pieces, they're available from Rio Grande, but I think they're really expensive. Better off to do it the old fashioned way. I'm ashamed to say ...

You can solder the silver ones with a small butane torch. Be careful not to burn up the silver though! It can be tricky to solder close to glass, also. If you want to do a really professional job (for strength as well as craftsmanship) cut through the solder joint with a jeweler's saw and re-solder.

Am I totally unreasonable?

I have been fusing for about 8 years. I've been teaching fusing for the past several years, and I sell my pieces (jewelry and panels) in a few select galleries within 150 miles of my home. Recently a customer of mine saw a piece in a gallery identical to one she had purchased from me a year before, t...

Here's what I do to drill~ use a piece of modeling clay (plasticine) and make a snake- then wrap this around where you want to drill, fill inside with water and a couple drops of coolant if you want, drill just until you begin to get through the back side, then flip over and drill from the back side...

I haven't noticed any edge curling with the new thin-fire. It is a lot dustier to clean up though... It seems a lot smoother pre-fired as well.

Linda, It's about 10 1/2 inches tall, 5 1/2 inches wide. I like the framing idea you had about making the frame shape fit the irregular sides... I wish I were more creative at the presentation/framing, etc. My other panels are framed in deep double mats, like a shallow shadowbox. I plan to sell them...

new piece, born this morning

I have a new piece I'd like to share, just born this morning. I haven't tried posting a photo since the BB changed, so I hope this works. Photo does no justice, I used a flash.

I used the cone that my dog had around his head to keep him from biting a wound- it's thick translucent plastic. He was pretty relieved to be rid of it, and I was pretty happy to get more use out of my $6 !

what kind of mold?

you could fire it upside down to try & sag it off the mold (not wet though)

two days might not be long enough if it's a porous mold & the humidity is high.

I'd be interested in the coldworking & such... I haven't been in since the move awhile back. Please email me off the board w/ class info. By the way, kiln came open when cooled, just pulled some fiber off both sides and cracked the bottom. I think I just panicked when I opened it up and found th...

stupid person with a stupid problem

I'm embarrased to even admit that I did this, but... I was fire polishing several dichro pendants in the quickfire this morning (to go to the gallery tomorrow, so I thought). I set the timer that I always clip to my body because I'm half deaf (really) and can't hear it unless it is attached to me, t...
