If the piece has any surface irregularities or features that you want to preserve, you can cast it in mold mix and fire it that way.

You could have one custom built to your specs if you live in an area where someone will do that for you.

Gerry's mold mix.

I took a 2 week class with Gerry last summer and we did some great casting with his mix. He suggested a face coat, somebody else refered to it as a slip coat.
